Original or aftermarket strap

Hi Omega Forum

I am looking at a Constellation ref 2852. The watch looks good, but the strap is a new aftermarket strap.

How much should it affect the value of the watch?

And is it possible to just buy an old spare omega strap from ebay, so it looks complete. Or does it have to be the original strap the watch were "born" with, to have a significant impact.

Cheers
Silas

The value of the strap is the value of the strap. Nobody cares about the brand. Finding a (NOS) period correct Omega strap will be 1) expensive and 2) near impossible.

IMO, the new strap doesn’t affect the value much, if any. Having a period-correct Omega buckle would increase the price slightly, but a 60-year old strap that is likely not in great condition will not add anything.

A period correct bracelet, on the other hand, will add a significant amount.

Hi, thanks for the quick comments. And make sense that a bracelet should be original.

Although I’d expect that a period correct bracelet could well cost as much as the watch

Forget about the strap. Even if available, Original leather straps that are 60 yrs old are unwearable and usually quite deteriorated.
Just find yourself a suitable leather strap available from many sources for $100 or less.

Thanks again. Make sense that an 60 year old is deteriorated.
The strap on the watch is brand new. So the question was more if it was worth buying a used strap for 100$ to get an omega logo, or if is a waste, because no know cares about the strap in the first place.

Add me to list of OF members who feel that a branded Omega strap is not worth the expense.

Beautiful high quality even bespoke leather straps are available from many sources there are multiple threads here with recommendations if you search here.

Adding an original buckle is often nice but that’s another area to research - see the buckle thread

Best wishes and welcome!

To be honest. I never thought BOR bracelets looked good on older Constellation models. End pieces on 5 link models designed more for the thick lugged Seamaster or similar lugged cases and 7 link on the thin lugged De Ville styled case.

End pieces didn’t follow the shape of the lugs.

Finding a gold filled in nice condition will be difficult. Many are worn.

Just my opinion

Stick with a strap. Semi matte croc or gator matching stitching or all black semi matte leather

A legit Omega strap will cost much more than $100.
