As I am travelling a very good friend went into town to check out the MoonSwatch launch in London today.
They even had my order / wish list (fat chance for that in the end ;0)
Even with three stores it was packed out/ big crowds and some had slept out to get their watch.

Some photos of the madness below.

I guess the launch was a marketing success and a sign confirmed they will be available on line soon........ which is much better than standing inline.

I think £200 for a fun watch is fine and Swatch has happy memories for a lot of people.
Also some hints to get people into the history / watches in general is no bad thing.
What happens next / any concept development might take a bad turn if they milk it.
Paying over the odds for these is getting a bit crazy for sure,,,,,,,,
.

Subject to any future release I think this is still more a hit than a miss - and it is nice to make some fun things a bit more accessible .......As long as you treat it as a disposable item. One thing is for sure there is always something to discuss with Omega /they push the comfort zone. I just hope the swatch does not remain unobtanium as well.....

There’s one on eBay with bids of 50k as well, doesn’t mean people are paying it. I think there’s a lot of bad feeling towards scalpers on this and people are ruining the auctions.

An absolute disaster. This is precisely what happens when you apply the sneaker culture type hype to something. People getting trampled, stock being sold out the back door to “private lists”, 10-20x resale prices, etc.

On one hand it’s neat to see excitement with Omega involved, on another it’s shameful because of poor execution. Perhaps they were successful in their goal, it just begs the question, “what were they hoping would happen?”

Outrageous behaviour…don’t know if I should feel smug or embarrassed to have a proper speedy on my wrist just now. Surely these are false bids on eBay…surely

Hi all,
I really wonder just how many of those queuing are even interested in wearing and owning the watch as opposed to just looking to make some quick money? I would be surprised if even 10% will keep the watch they bought.

Maybe omega and swatch created the hype. But it was irresponsible and dangerous the way they managed it today. There could have been a riot for a £200 watch. There was no security in the end it was total chaos. People who waited for more than 16 hours had to go home empty handed because of the incompetency of swatch. Just to be clear I didn’t wait for 16 hours and I am glad I didn’t 🙁
