heya everyone,

i bought my father as part of retirement gift,
i cant remember the exact model, but checking my emails I was making enquiries for a
Tag Heuer 2000 Aquaracer Men's Watch
its a different colour but looks about the same

to my annoyance, my father wore it like twice, and got annoyed that the battery died after a few days and never wore it again,
I just found it, and now no matter how much shaking, it wont recharge,

it was purchased about 10 years ago,
is this fixable?

I paid about $2200 AUD back at this time from a proper Bricks and mortar retailer in my city

Unscrew the crown (the little knob at the 3 o'clock position) and wind it. It's a mechanical watch and doesn't have a battery.

If your watch is like the one in the picture, then it is not battery powered, but rather mechanically spring powered.

The "Automatic" on the dial is the indicator that the watch is a self-winding (i.e., automatic) mechanical watch. The watch stopped working because the spring ran down, which is normal for an automatic watch that isn't worn.

Try winding the watch manually about 15-20 times, and then wear it normally -- automatic watches need to be worn regularly to stay wound (i.e., "charged"). Otherwise, they run down and stop.

Thanks everyone.
Im only guessing the exact model because it looks the same and i did make an enquiry on it at the same time

But yes im quite sure its "automatic" ie charges with motion.

Just seems a waste sitting there in the dark, i m tempted to take the watch

Thanks everyone , it worked! So happy ! I think.i wasnt sure whether i was supposed to pull the crown out and wind or just wind with crown in... and it didnt work, until i realised when i pressed the button at 1 oclock then the second hand started moving

It seems the price of these have gone up to. $2200aud when i bought now seems to br about $6000 which is shocking too

Also.dumb question, is the spinning second hand supposed be spinning 1 circle every minute when in default mode. Or is it only using it as a stop watch.
And embarassing, but are any of the diala supposed to be spinning when in standaed watch mode?

Central seconds hand is chronograph seconds, top subdial is chronograph minutes, bottom subdial is chronograph hours. Chronograph features operate only when the chronograph is running, and you should not leave it running all the time.

Left subdial is running seconds, which always runs.

Thank you so much! Life saver
I will go and play with it now!

Hey, if you're still here.... if you have a manual for it maybe have a look at that before you start playing too much. But in any case, if the chrono is running press the top button to stop it and press the bottom button to reset it.
Also - don't go changing the date until you know where the hands are.
Turn the hands until they reach 12, this will tell you if it's morning or afternoon. If the date doesn't change and it's showing afternoon then you can use the quick set date (first position on the crown). If the date changes at 12 then make sure you move the hands to at least 6AM before you change the date. The date wheel can be broken if you change it in the evening or early morning.

One final question, my understanding is that the battery lasts abput 2 days. How much wearing fully charges the battery?

And how do you guys avoid the battery running out when you dont wear it everyday?

Your watch doesn't have a battery. It has a spring. Winding (or wearing) the watch (it has a weighted rotor inside which winds the watch when you move your arm) tightens the spring which then releases it's energy over the next couple of days. If you don't wear it or wind it, it will stop. You can avoid this by putting it in a watchwinder, but a word of caution there, I have a watch winder but my Calibre 16 (which is what your watch has inside) doesn't wind in it for some reason. I know my winder is programmable but I've never bothered to find out what I need to do to make it work as all my other watches wind in it as it is.
I think these are a reasonable brand, though you can get much cheaper (and much more expensive too)

Also, keep asking questions. It's a good thing. There's a lot to learn.

Ill probably only used it for time and date, probably never use the stopwatch!

Sure you could find something fun to use it for, mine gets used for timing the record cleaning machine waiting periods, and boiled eggs.

When I owned a chronograph was used all the time for cooking (found a 12hr totaliser needed for long roasts), parking times, lunch times etc

The Cal 16, be it ETA 7750 or Sellita SW500, is a single direction winder. It only winds when turning CW in the winder. It's also possible that the reverser is jammed (does it helicopter when winding manually?)

I don't know what that means but it winds normally. It's barely been used since new (4-5 years old) as it's not one of my favourite watches..
