I bought a used '04 Seamaster about a month ago; it is running about one second a day fast per NIST which I think is pretty good. It was purchased on ebay and had a feel like it was brand new. The question is that I don't know the service history of it. I'm thinking of having it serviced but I'm worried about messing up a good thing. I also am considering none Omega servicing; anyone got experience with less expensive alternatives to the Omega service centers? I've been looking at Rolexs but can't seem to justify the expense. The Omega is that nice. Here's its picture.

Don't service it, +1 is perfect and these movements run fine even for much longer intervals, I'd just enjoy it mate

Put the money towards another watch like a vintage Constellation or a Speedmaster Pro IMO 😉

dsio, thanks for replying in both threads. How about testing for water resistance?

I would have it pressure tested and seals changed for sure, costs under $50 usually for the whole job and well worth doing

Any recommendations regarding where to get this sort of work done, anyone?

Should be able to just find a local reputable watchmaker to handle the seal change for you, normally isn't too hard or expensive

Local is the way to go. The watchmakers I know charge about $40 - $50 if no other parts than a gasket are needed.
