路Hello all! This will be a long post as I haven't yet formally introduced myself. First paragraph will be an introduction, second paragraph will be my question, incase you get bored of my intro!!
Introduction
I've been a lurker for a little while now, leaving the odd comment here and there and I'm finally ready to engage a bit more with the community. As I'm still a student, I have a small but fun collection (in my humble opinion) that I have carefully selected over my watch journey (and others acquired). I have an unhealthy obsession (don't we all?) for watches, primarily Tag Heuer (of which I own three) and Omega (of which I own none... yet...). My watch journey began with a Tag Heuer 2000 962.206-2 (which will be the topic of my question) that I purchased in 2021. About a year later I bought a Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph CA1210-RO to join my 2000. Early in 2025, I decided to sell my Formula 1 Chronograph because it just wasn't getting a lot of wrist time. What really helped me cope with letting it go was the increase in value since I had purchased it and the option to buy one of my favourite watches. So, out went the Formula 1 Chrono (to a very kind and happy new owner), and in came my battered Tag Heuer 1000 980.613b. OK, so maybe battered was an exaggeration, but it definitely needed some love (some new gaskets and a lovely new sapphire crystal from Tag1000Diver), so I sent it to a local watch repair shop to have it brought up to snuff to serve as my new daily. Jump ahead, still absolutely loving the 1000, Tag Heuer starts to tease its new Formula 1 models. Upon reveal, I was a bit disappointed by the pricing (although realistically it would have been out of my budget anyway), so I set out to find a classic model. Many hours doom scrolling later, I found a great 371.513 on the original metal bracelet which I promptly purchased. Some honourable non-Tag mentions, I own a vintage Tissot Navigator ref. 44940 that was passed down to me from my dad in non-working order (now fixed and running beautifully), a Saturn Moonswatch that was also from my dad, and my two favourite beater watches: a Casio AE1200, and a G-Shock GA2100. Now, I'm considering doing a bit of a shake up in my collection, but more on that another time. TL;DR I own a few watches
Question
Now, my question to all you subject matter pro's, is about my Tag Heuer 2000. I have done (what I feel is) extensive research trying to understand the reference number on the caseback, 962.206-2, and I just can't seem to find a lot really. When I look up the model and reference number, I see 2000's with no applied indices and a black square around the date window with the odd photo of a watch that looks like mine. I look up the model with the reference 962.206R and it's the same thing. Thanks to On the Dash, I was able to identify that this watch most resembles the WE1111 from the 1994/95 catalogue. Is it possible that the 962.206-2 was the reference used on this updated version between 1992-93? Is there something fishy here? I saw another member post about a 962.006 black dial which looked a lot like mine, but notably it emits the -2.
Attached is the very first photo I ever took of my Tag Heuer 2000 on wrist, for fun and as a reference!
