But... the whole point of lume is to point a torch at it. That is literally its purpose (for diving), not for telling the time at 4 in the morning.
You're right. I've always done this.
I guess because this is up until now the most expensive watch I've purchased I suppose I worry a little more about it. 😆

Yes, understandable. Makes me wonder about my orange F1 too! 🙁

You're good bro, you never spend any time in the sun anyway 😂

You mention that the orange dial compound doesn't hold up well to sunlight. Has there been instances of the orange Aquaracer suffering from dial fade that you're aware of?
None that I know of. We just haven't waited long enough.

Edit: I did some research on this and apparently they made an orange-dial diver (Ref. 980.005) in the late seventies:
...that "inspired" the current orange-dial Aquaracer introduced in 2022. I found a current example online:
You be the judge.

I also found a post on WUS with a six-year old Doxa diver:
Doxa seemed to think it was a fluke, but I think it was out in the sun for much of it's life and I would expect this of UV exposure.

One thing to note is that this color often has some orange luminescent pigment that glows under UV. The orange version of this pigment is notorious for fading.

It's a common trick; shine a UV light on a freshly washed Tee and see how much it glows. "Brighter than White" they say.

Wow.
I knew there was an orange diver in the 70s. To be fair, I'd say that the dial has survived remarkably well.

The Doxa, that looks very bleached.
Thank you. 😁

Hi,

My first post, having just joined.

I've always been interested in mechanical watches, but I've never bought anything "higher end" before. I'd always promised myself a Swiss timepiece at some point.
Anyway, recently I was walking past Goldsmiths (UK) and noticed an orange Aquaracer. As soon as I saw it, I knew I needed it.
Brand new, unworn with a free watch winder.

I was informed that this watch was not a popular choice in orange. It would be interesting to know how many were actually made. Do these figures exist?

Anyway, I do have a couple of other questions, if you don't mind....

It says on the TAG Heuer website, to avoid exposure to bright lights, which got me thinking...
The other day, whilst loading the watch into the watch winder, I was carefully inserting it into the barrel with the aid of a torch (There isn't much clearance) and when I turned the torch off, the lume was incredible. Like nothing I've ever seen. Beautiful blue, contrasting with green. Just stunning.

I just wondered if the torch is harmful for the watch? It was only 100 lumens LED. I assume there's no issue.

As I said, I've only ever had cheaper watches, so I haven't ever really been that bothered before about things like that.

Second question, how accurate are people finding their Calibre 5s? Mine is gaining around 15-17 seconds per day.
It doesn't bother me too much. I guess I just "thought" it might be a little bit more accurate.

Thank you.
Welcome to the forum Phil! I am also new to the forum but not new to Tag Heuer, got my first Tag in late 1997, CS2110 Monaco, and it's still with me 😀
Enjoy!

Thank you very much. Always wanted a higher end watch having always worn Seiko or Vostok. But finally, in my forties I treated myself. Unfortunately I loved the Aquaracer so much it was closely followed by a Carrera. 😆 So now I have two TAG Heuer's...
Now I need to try and stop looking in Goldsmiths or I will have to get a second job as I already want a Monaco as well... 😆

Careful my friend… this hobby can easily take over your finances and is known to break relationships in those more extreme cases. Take it easy and don’t rush into it. 😊

As for the Monaco, you cannot go wrong with it, they are special pieces, with Calibre 11 editions being my fav. Let me post few photos here to help enabling you, but as I mentioned above, do take it easy and slow, negotiate hard as they pop up for sale at an affordable price every now and then.

Good Advice there from @babola
I always got the question we all dread “ is that a new watch” and always gave the same answer “ No, had this one for ages”
Take my advice with a grain of salt though, as I’ve been married 3 times 😉

@babola - loving those Monacos

Better yet, get your wife into watches and then your problems are solved.
Well.... not really. It just becomes a different problem, since now you have to buy watches two at a time. 😲

Fk that, tell her to buy her own damn watches. I'm not made of money!

But yeah, don't fall into that trap... otherwise every time you want a watch you'll feel obliged to buy the wife one also.

You make it sound so simple …
Just lucky I guess. I did take my wife to Switzerland and to the TAG museum so that probably helped. 🤣
She still bought Omega and Oris and Cartier though.
Thankfully no Tudor though

I've done some stupid things in my time, but even I recognize that would be suicidal! ::facepalm1::

Happy wife, happy life! Even if somewhat broke....
