Better pics as promised. Please indulge my first photographic/photoshop attempts. The last pic is intentionally dreadful to highlight pitting on the crystal, which I believe I will need to replace....

This pic really over-emphasizes pitting/scratching on the crystal. Moreover, the crystal spins in place. Is it safe to assume that it needs a new crystal and gasket?
I'm not so sure it does have a gasket. It's probably just a slightly undersized crystal. Measure the opening and add 1/10th of a milimetre for the new crystal.
