McQueen's Porsche 917 looked like this:

...and here's a special one-off McLaren P1 made by their MSO division...just in case the normal P1 was too normal.

Beautiful livery, this and the Martini cars are probably the two most iconic in motorsport of all time

Hallo Hubert,

I'm sure that everybody who knew the
GT40 will recognize the tradition. The
GT40 was a legend, especially at Le Mans. (Although, I was a Porsche fan,
I think of the legendary race in 1969.)
Will the new Ford GT participate in the
FIA-WEC, or what is it meant for? I would
appreciate a participation. Will the old
times come back?
Let is see.

In the meantime best wishes
Werner Boeinck

Good question Werner! Here's a post that discusses this very question.
The New Ford GT: Where Can It Race?

Hallo Hubert ,
Thank you for the post. Question answered, learning can be great fun.
At the end of August there will be a race
belonging to the FIA-WEC at the
Nürburgring. I hope I can make it and
see the GT there (and some others of
course).

Very welcome Werner. I also hope to see the new Ford GT race soon as well.

Please post some pictures of the races, if you end up going. Cheers!

I can't think of another iconic image that features a legend, great cars and a fantastic watch. Certainly influenced me in more ways than one.

For you Werner:
In the background of one shot (around the 1:49 mark) you can see a design board with renderings of what looks to be the rumored racing version of the GT - complete with reshaped air intakes, deeper side sills, a bigger rear wing and a central rear fin like you'd find on the latest LMP1 racing prototypes.

It wouldn't be the first time we've caught wind of the prospect of the Blue Oval's new supercar going racing. We first heard of the plans last October, further reinforced in December with reports of the new GT coming to Detroit. And as we reported just a couple of weeks ago following the supercar's reveal, a return to Le Mans could be in the cards - which would be fortuitous timing, since next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the original GT40 scoring its landmark 1-2-3 finish in the 24-hour race.

To me, it's OK, but not great. At least the last "reedition" they did was an honest copy of the original GT40 and never pretended to be anything else. This one is a little trapped in between. It's kind of a copy of the old one, but updated.

It would have been bolder to start again with a new, modern design.

For you Werner:

Hello Hubert,
I like the design of the GT, especially as
it's different to the Audis and Porsches.
So let the legend return. I think they have
great courge to translate the "dino- design" into present. But I think they know
what they are doing.
But now I have a problem: As mentioned
earlier, I'm a Porsche fan. What to wish
for victory?
And further on, who will wear the (TAG)
Heuer?

Cheers

Excellent questions Werner.
I think you should root for Porsche and your home team. And if they don't win, then you'll have a second team to cheer for.
Nice to have choices!

Hello Hubert,
having read your contribution about the
Nissan Nismo/TAGHeuer LM P1 project
I now have a third team to cheer for. To
use your words, if you have enough choices you nearly can't loose! June 13th/
14th might cost me a lot of energy, but
I will enjoy it.
If Nissan participates in the LeMans race,
they surely have something "in the pipe".
That's the japanese way. Toyota also was very strong in the past, but they had bad
luck. So this year's race will at least be
"very interesting". I'm looking forward to
it. I presume, one question is answered
in the meantime: the TAGHeuer will be worn by Marc Gene.

Cheers
Werner
