Yeah I think how it stands out and different from everything I have

Not for me, but to each their own. I'm assuming that case material is some kind of metal/stainless?

Yeah it is. Its from one of my favorite movies

If Seiko could make a motion tracker like they had in Aliens, I would buy that in a second.
When I started to read this thread and you posted this watch it came at me from left field, as most folks on the forum would probably go the vintage mechanical chrono route if looking for a Seiko Chrono, but to each his/her own. It will get noticed by folks!

The fact that the OP's vague initial brief has been only mildly derided is a testament to how much us watch nerds love and respect Seiko (and enjoy talking about the watches they make).

I'm going to second @Jwit 's recommendation and say any of the SARB Turtles is the best Seiko you can buy for under $1000

It wears remarkably well... it looks fantastic. It has an overachieving movement... a day/date function plus a timing bezel... it's very, very waterproof... it's all the casual watch anyone could ever need or want and you can grab three within your budget if you can't decide which colour combo you like best (I like @Jwit 's PADI variant best). 👍

Does it wear the same as an SKX? And the main reason I ask is, I'm used to lower profile watches. I wear vintage dress watches into the office and a Tag Aquaracer as a beater diver. On a NATO, the SKX seems like it sits so high on my wrist. I get adjusted after a day or two, but it's a little disorienting at first.

The SRP Series uses the turtle case which is a cushion case. The cushion case sits fairly flush to the wrist and wears smaller than its dimensions lead on(45mm wears more like 42mm IMHO).

They also make a few different variants see below(note the Grey dial is a sold out limited edition selling for 1200+ on secondary market) others can be found for ~$300USD new.

Naturally it will sit higher on a traditional nato. But you can get custom NATOs made like @Foo2rama that are single passs only.

My last thread hijack, I swear. I wish Seiko would just up their bracelet game a little. If they did, I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat.

Actually, if you could stretch your budget a bit @JayVL11, this would be a hell of a way to break into Seiko. Excellent diver at a third or less of what a Swiss comparable would cost.

Up their bracelet game? The bracelet on my PADI (SRPA21) is insanely comfortable. To be completely honest the clasp on it could be higher quality. It it does the job. However I've never had a Rolex oyster bracelet to compare it to.

It's not a completely fair comparison ($1800 vs $4500) but outfit the MM300 with a self adjusting clasp like on the Pelagos and I'd happily pay for it.

Think I decided the watch that I am going after.........Seiko x Giugiaro wanting to know what you guys think? Think one of the older ones would be great to buy
One of the originals from the '80s, or one of the more recent reissues?

You should look at the RAF Gen 1 (or two for that matter). Great build quality, history (it was the first quartz analogue), provenance as an issued military watch; a dizzyingly cool 1/10th second chrono....

I would probably wear an original given the tie to Aliens.

Rolex is far superior, as it better be 😉. Only nicer bracelets I've experienced are Cartier, and those had better be nice since the watches are largely wrist jewelry (yes, I know all their history, etc). I do have some weird love for the discontinued Roadster though 😕. I have replaced my three Seiko bracelets with super engineer models, which are heavy but well built. I got tired of fussing with the stupid collar system Seiko uses for the adjustable bits 🤬.

It might take some work to find a silver 7A28-7001 without issues within your budget. But if you get hold of one, I would love to see how it wears (other than on Sigourney Weaver, that is).

A couple of closely related models for reference:

Just think of them as investments not purchases.

There, did that help?
