Looking for Megaquartz 1510/1511/1516 Service Manual

I received sad news from STS that they are no longer servicing the Megaquartz 2.4MHz Constellations and Marine Chronometers. Does anyone have a service manual for these, in any language? Thanks.

That’s big news.

Are they no longer taking them in at all (even trough Swisstec)?

The last time I caught up with Tony he told me that parts were now a serious issue.

I begged but was told that they were no longer undertaking any servicing on them.

How about Simon Freese?
He knows them inside and out.
Parts are an issue but when I bought mine it had never been serviced in 38 years and was doing ok.
Having had a full service now hopefully it might see me out........

Had a brief chat with Tony at STS yesterday and motors and circuits are now an issue, but if the motor and circuit are good, service should be possible.

I think the reticence to take these in stems from availability of motors and circuits… if those parts fail after service under warranty then there aren’t a lot of options.

I could foresee a future state where service of these watches excludes warranty on the parts that are NLA… either that or no one will touch them at all.

Maybe worth talking to Tony to discuss a specific watch (if it is currently working correctly), but I think the days of sending in broken/non running 1510/11/16 watches are over.

I understand their reluctance if there aren't parts. If they drop a screwdriver on the motor while servicing a working watch, it would be on them to find a new motor, and if they can't commit to that, then they can't undertake service.

My particular one is working well but I was reluctant to service it myself because of the aventurine dial. I put a couple layers of silk into the movement holder to protect it and was able to remove the electronics and motor, clean the mechanical side and lubricate as seemed sensible (without service manual, all I did was the keyless works in normal way and tiny bit of Moebius 9000 quartz oil on the train pivots), grease the gasket and close it back up. Hopefully good for a few more years. I don't take it out much.

It would perhaps be worth to get in touch with Théo in Germany .. he is a real specialist and is very well equipped ..
I can get his coordinates to you, if you want .. over a pm.

Tony is very well known as the guy for these… but there are no motors or circuits left and as I understand it, he had the final supply…

Theo is going to have the same issues… unless someone starts making/remaking circuits and motors, or has more of a stash than Tony did.

The problem with these watches was always going to be when parts ran out… it seems we are now there. 👎

Did anyone get in touch with Theo in Germany? Mine is running but not keeping time and I would love for it to be working at least as well as a regular quartz.

Hi malilis,
i happen to have a cal 1511 as well. The watch is running good, but the quartz is old; the time offset is horrible. Could you please dm me the contact of Théo?
Thank you,
Mathias

Hi all. I am wanting to get more information on how the movement speed can be adjusted. My 1510 is running very slow and would like to know what are the possible reasons and how this could be remedied. Based in Switzerland. Thanks in advance for any assistance! Alex

Moste possible reason is an elderly quartz but it can be many other things that you will only know when you have all the necessary special tools and equipment and most important you completley understand what to do with them correctly.
So your best bet is to get in touch with Omega in Biel.

I do not think Omega will help. In the UK Simon Freese has the most experince now I think = http://www.simonfreesewatchmakers.com/
You can also try @wristpirate as Simon is sometimes at his boutique Tortoise Watches now. https://tortoisewatches.com/pages/london-boutique
The main issue is parts now, but I guess adustment is different, although warranty becomes a problem. Also I know Simon has a lot on currently.

Reading back the thread it looks like for the UK Simon and STS are not servicing, maybe they would attempt an adjustment. Looking back at my old notes I found this if anyone is brave.....
