I found this non working Longines clock recently and would love to get it going. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start. My watchmakers are not interested in messing around with electricty.
No sound or light when it's plugged in.
I'm going track down a bulb for it as it looks like the bulb is just burnt out.
Cheers,
Chris

A circular flourescent tube should not be too hard to find, although the the starter may have gone bad as well. You might be able to find the stepper motor used for the time keeping portion. There are number stamped on the back, google may help! I would think this could be made functional again

You can find direct wire replacement circular LED bulbs on the internet where you can get rid of the ballast and starter. The motor for the clock is a synchronous motor, often running at 1rpm. They contain a small gearbox with oil that often gets gummed up. There are replacements that might be available and sometimes they can be opened up and cleaned. Again searching YouTube might show you how to do that.

I just received the bulb and starter/ballast and the light is now working...Yay! I'm going to give a try to opening up the clock motor and see if I can clean it up, re oil and get it running. Thanks so much for the info @fiberguy and @Boulder Horology

Cheers,
Chris

After doing a little research we decided to open up the electric motor but unable to figure out what was wrong with it. Nothing really serviceable inside. The wheels in the gear train were all very gummed up (pics attached) with thick old oil. We cleaned up the all the wheels (forgot to take a pic of the clean wheels) and reassembled. I managed to find a replacement electric motor at Griffens Clock Parts and voila the clock is working again and accuracy so far seems to be within 3 secs/day. I'll post another pic with the light on shortly.
