They were also pretty draconian when talk of quality issues popped up, pulling support from forums that would not remove posts that were seen as critical to the brand.

The first versions of the FP Journe Linesport case material were made of aluminum. And while there was no public acknowledgement, the aluminum could and would permanently stain. At two different boutiques, it was disappointing at least to me that when I enquired on that these aluminum pieces that I had in hand, that they would still be sold with no mention of this material defect.

The initial version of the FP Journe Linesport clearly falls short of the usage intent; but sure if you want to keep it in a display case or wear in an air conditioned office and drive to work then have at it.

THE OCTA AUTOMATIQUE RÉSERVE SPORT TITANE MODEL WITH AUTOMATIC WINDING MOVEMENT IN ALUMINIUM IS AN EXCLUSIVE WATCH IN TITANIUM OF AN ASTOUNDING LIGHTNESS.

THIS COLLECTION HAS BEEN INSPIRED BY AN IMPORTANT COLLECTOR, AFICIONADO OF F.P. JOURNE WATCHES, WHO COMMITTED HIMSELF IN NUMEROUS MARATHON AND TRIATHLON COMPETITIONS AND WISHED TO HAVE AN ULTRA LIGHT SPORTS WATCH, COUPLED WITH A MOVEMENT OF AUTHENTIC HIGH HOROLOGY.

F.P. JOURNE UNDERTOOK LONG RESEARCHES TO FIND AN ULTRA LIGHT AND RESISTANT MATERIAL TO RECEIVE HIS EXCEPTIONAL CALIBRES; WHILE MAINTAINING THE STANDARDS OF HIGH HOROLOGY THAT INHABIT HIS EVERYDAY LIFE. THE AUTOMATIQUE RÉSERVE PRESENTS THE NEW MOVEMENT ENTIRELY MADE OF ALUMINIUM RESERVED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE “LINESPORT”. WITH AN EXTREME LIGHTNESS IN ABSOLUTE COMFORT, THE WATCH IN ITS TOTALITY ONLY WEIGHS AROUND 60 GRAMS (ON RUBBER BRACELET).

Quality issues - scratched lugs and case dents.
(also if you look at the whole article and photos - she loves Speedys)

"a series of unfortunate events befell the F.P. Journe watch - from scratched lugs that drove Dr. Ko “crazy” to being robbed at gunpoint in Berkeley, Calif. (the watch was found later and returned). Eventually, she sold it.

“It was cursed,” she said.

In 2013, Dr. Ko purchased a replacement only to have it arrive, she said, “with a dent in the case due to carelessness during shipping.” Still, she wore it on a solo pilgrimage that fall to the 88 Temples of Shikoku in Japan and sold it upon her return. "

fair usage quote and then the rest here

To be clear, I am not intending to bag on FP Journe or say Lange is better; both brands have different approaches in competing in the luxury watch market.

What I am though saying is

1) anecdotally, FP Journe has had quality control issues

2) saying that the market has spoken is not a good indicator that FP Journe is better than Lange. Watch prices are cyclical and good on FP Journe that his watches are currently in the fickle spotlight.

I have always heard this about Journe watches. Hopefully, the situation has improved. I am also not a big fan of a subsidiary dial for the time as so commonly found on FPJ or their hands style. It works on the Lange 1 and that is about it.

Peaks and troughs appear to be present in this highly lauded movement.

I found a picture on the internet of the same model movement. Curiously the anglage is present here (and not in your picture in the area encircled). Strange.

Edit: Maybe the anglage is there in Cozmopak's post, but more obvious in this picture.

Since we’re on the topic of finishing, can you point me toward some good resources comparing the different qualities of anglage, machined vs handmade? I’ve been doing a bit of research but still coming up short.

Here's a primer on anglage.

1.4mm chf

pretty incredible and unexpected result but it is in fact rare (20 pcs) and early. I expected the CB to do better than 40K. Early FPJ is gonna be a force for years to come

Was truly stunned by these results. Early FP Journe Tourbillons (and other watches) are now unobtainium material!!

As a point of reference the two watches in the 90s
were 27,500 CHF (platinum) and 18,000 CHF

i came close on a 38mm tourbillon several times and never "got there"
i wish i had known about the sous subscription watches but truthfully they never really traded

for me the 1st gen 38mm resonance and the 38mm 1st gen tourbillion are in the pantheon of greatest watch designs ever

Indeed, to each his own. If you buy watches based on what the market likes best, that's up to you, but to me that's investing rather than collecting.
