For me it's off-putting, as just as much is the lack of a leading "0" for dates 1 to 9, which to my eye ruined the visual balance of the watch. Not sure if they still do that but when I was considering one of these several years ago, that put me off totally.

·Agreed that the date is either off-putting a quirky. I do like the frame that they have between the dates though, personally, too. I can definitely understand how it would irk people though.
Looking at GO's big dates, you can see the subtle curvature as the discs are on the same plane - not sure if technically this would be possible to avoid (the curved line) with the location of the big date on the lange 1? And the curved line would obviously not sit well with the frame. To be fair there isn't any frame between the numbers on the Lange Zeitwerk, but they still went with the stepped numbers (to be consistent I guess across models, since the Lange 1 came first in the early 1990s).
Overall I like it's quirkiness (the big date) - similar to lange choosing to go with a slower beat rate (18k hz), it seems to harken back to an old-fashioned charm for me! (I have no idea if they went with the slower beat rate for any other actual reasons)
Tried on the platinum version - and it is just stunning. Probably my grail dress watch!

·Why would the Lange 1 have a day/night indicator but the Grand Lange 1 wouldnt? For both moonphase variants.

·Lange watches are some of the best made watches in the world and the L1 was the genesis of the modern Lange. Great watches and when you add the Moonphase to it, it really stands out.
