Lange 1 - Solid caseback

Another reference 101.001 from the Danish second hand watch dealer, chrono.dk.
With the solid gold case and case back this is another example of the first reference from the Lange 1 series.
This set is complete with box, papers and certificate and priced at roughly €72.700.

Do we think that solid case backs in other metals will be equally valuable? Platinum, white and rose gold? They do not have the 101.001 reference number but they are just as 1st series. Any data on those metals?

Great thread - love the 101.001 and signed up to this forum as a result.
I recently saw a 101.001, full set and very good condition, for less than 20k€.

Considering to buy as I feel that at that price point, it would be quite a steal. Certainly expecting prices to go up.

What about the very early 102.001 for sale by the same seller at approx EUR 33.000 (see link below)? What do you think - are they also gaining popularity?

They’ll get there but popularity isn’t as strong as the L1. Only recently has the Lange 1 received enough secondary market interest for rare types to see an increase in value. Could buy many of the rare ones a few years ago well under retail and under $20k

Just noting - The offer on Chrono24 is gone now. Seems like the watch was sold. Interesting would obviously be the final sales price.

What I've heard locally is that both the Lange 1 101.001 and the saxonia 102.001 was sold immediately after the the Dorotheum auction to the same international collector for the asking price.

Apparently there were more than one interested buyer. Seems like the Dorotheum auction has moved the market interest to the next level - both regarding the Lange 1 but also regarding the closed back Saxonias

This season the Lange 1 reference 101.005 is hot!
Both auction houses PHILLIPS and Dr. Crott are auctioning an example of the first series closed case back in platinum.

*PHILLIPS A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 101.005, with box and certificate of origin from year 1994.
Estimate €27.800-55.600.

Seems the estimates at auction of the Lange 1 solid case backs are more in line with the actual hammer price of previous estimates.
Will update on hammer price when auction is concluded.

Thanks for posting. Time will tell, but but do you think...

Will the 101.005 fetch a hammer price higher than the last 101.001 indicating the platinum "stealth" version might be more desirable?

There is a lot of interest in Langes pre early 2000s prior to the Richemont purchase and subsequent corporate stylings
