Typically, a thorough examination of the watch prior to cleaning it, should result in realizing anything that requires a repair, such as broken balance staff pivots! How is it possible you missed that, and still had to have someone on the OB diagnose the broken pivot from a grainy image? Required repairs should be diagnosed and dealt with, before the cleaning process.
Also, pithwood is used to clean pivots. Pegwood goes in the jewels. Balsa is too soft; fork out for some pegwood.
