JLC Triple Date Resources

I'd like to research this model and was wondering if anyone can recommend any books or Internet resources on the history of the JLC triple Date and the evolution of the different models ?

We went to the JLC boutique today to check a few models out. Quite tempted to save my pennies for a Master Moon 39 now 😀

That's a sweet watch. If it were 37 mm or less I'd own one now. The thin bezel makes the watch look much larger with all that dial. Sat funny on my wrist too.

Ah, the wonder of human biology...most of the others I tried didn't sit right on me. Only this one & the Grande Reverso GMT made themselves at home on my wrist 😎

It would appear that whether we like it or not we in the UK have a like for like more expensive taste than our cousins across the water!

Don't really know much about the JLC TDMP - is it considered more valuable than the omega version (metal, condition, and originality being the same) because of the JLC brand and because it is less plentiful? I know quite a bit about the omega version (which btw I considered undervalued even among vintage omegas) but don't know much about the JLC one. For those of you familiar with both brands' versions, how do they compare?

JLC's movement is in-house and very sought after. Stainless versions sell for $3K and up even in poor condition, solid gold adds $800 or more to the price at the very minimum. I watched, and under bid for, an 18ct version last year that sold for $4.5K in pretty good shape. Mint prices are INSANE. You have to be careful though because JLC made a reissue in 1994-ish using NOS parts so it's a nearly identical model. I forget the way to tell them apart.

At those prices it is not that much different then from the prices the omegas fetch with a premium of course for those in excellent condition and in 18k rose gold. And then there are the scarce square TDMPs which if original and in excellent shape top $10k. I would imagine the mint versions fetch huge premiums because these watches are easily damaged by moisture (what with all the openings for pushers and such and being snapback cases too) and it is difficult to find one with very clean original dials and movements.

I haven't seen an identical reissue, but there was a 90s version which was produced until about 2 or 3 years ago. It is similar but in no way identical to the original models.

40's/50's version, there were 33mm & 36mm versions I know of - see 1st two pics.

And the more recent version, 37mm, in stainless, white gold and yellow gold -see last 2 pics:

I've shown my 1948ish steel example before (triple date, non-moon-phase), double signed. I was told by a collector that he is pretty sure he sold this particular watch to a NY dealer some years ago; he had obtained it from Perry Como's estate (he collected watches). I have no way to prove this, however!

I looked at these last Friday at a local AD that has about a dozen in stock. Nice watches.

The dial on these is great. Wish I was rich enough to get this & the Master Moon 🙄
