Of course the other problem here is what's called the Dennis rule, "The best watch season finds come up while you are in funds rebuilding mode"

Anyway, another Master Moon turned up on eBay.

The seller doesn't ship to Singapore, and has only 12 feedback. The BIN price was $3300 and it got sold pretty quick a few hours after I found it.

Out of curiosity (for my own learning) is it legit? It looked like it was... not that I would've made an offer given lack of shipping option and my worries about the seller having only 12 feedback.

If I don't find a way around that kind of restriction, I am richer now......and only half the collection 馃榿

Watch is legit, but that is an extremely low price - suspiciously low

I saw it too. I was so tempted to buy it. Spent so much time analyzing everything about it. Sent seller questions and asked for more pictures. He/She did not get back before it was sold.

If the scale of the value was lower down to say, a watch that normally sells for $300 sells for $150, I'd take the risk, since ebay is very lenient to buyers. But at $3,300, man it would just hurt too much if the crap hits the fan.

I had similar reservations at that price. Besides the number of feedback (12), the prior items sold included guitar equipment, Xbox games, nothing close to a JLC. Seller said he needed the money, but then again, they generally do. It'll be interesting to check back and see what the final feedback given was for this auction.

I was probably overly cautious, but as omega1337 said, a $3300 deal gone sour would've been quite painful indeed. Still calibrating my response on the "markedly cautious --> wild abandon" scale ! Need more experience.

I've dealt with watch scum bags on Ebay before and claims always seem to end in my favor. Proper documentation is key.

Wow! Cojones of steel 馃槈
Let us know how it turns out! BTW, did the seller send pics when you asked him to? (assuming you did)

I spend about one and a half minutes deliberating the sale. I reviewed Ebay's auction history for reference prices, which confirmed my suspicions, and then did a rapid detail analysis. Everything added up and I knew I needed to act fast!

I did not ask for more pics, but did talk to him after. He seems like a nice guy who's new to selling online. The watch is on its way via Fedex!

Dennis, this is an appropriate moment for the quote. How does it go? ("Ebay rewards...")

It seems several forum members did very well the last few days, scoring some truly desirable watches.

Dennis, this is an appropriate moment for the quote. How does it go? ("Ebay rewards...")

this would fit firmly in the category of "deft action"

I will document for you guys upon delivery. 馃槜

Wow, if you do get it and confirm it's legit, man you'd look like a champ.

Also I've filed numerous cases on eBay as a buyer, won them all, you'll get your money back if the deal is bad no doubt. But my fear was getting that one seller that knows all the tricks. I had one seller who did, and dragged it on to the point where I force eBay to make a decision by hounding them with calls, merely days before the 45 day limit. Luckily it was for something around $100, not a bad loss if i got screwed, but I wanted to see how far the seller went. In the end it was a huge hassle for me, the time sink was not worth the $100, but as they say, "It's the principle!".

Can you share us the trick used by the seller?

Any tips for us about what constitutes proper documentation? Sounds like something I should learn!

As for general tips:

1. Cite the problem (i.e. redial, watch is broken, undocumented damage, etc.)
2. Describe the problem in layman's terms. They people do not know the lingo of watches, nor do they understand the significance to collectors.
3. Estimate the difference in value the item you "bought" is to the item you "received".

Above all, stay kind and considerate.

Hint: Ebay now allows both parties to upload pictures as evidence during the case process.

If you open a case with the complaint that the watch doesn't work properly or isn't authentic, Ebay often requests that you, the buyer, send it to a third party "authorized" watchmaker to verify the claim.

This is about it.

Always address the seller's arguments against you. Calmly tell the Ebay representatives why his or her responses don't hold water.
