Informed opinion required please

Hello one and all, my name is Johnnie and I have on recently joined this forum(48hours) ago! After having spent many hours reading up on the Speedmaster I have come to the conclusion I know very little. I didnt realised how many subtle differences there are between Speedmasters and what to look for, I have looked and read until my eyes are like nookie bear. So I thought it would be easier if I simply asked the experts and learnt something along the way. I have owned my SPEEDY (a word I learnt on here) Since 1970 and have never had anything done to it ever, it has never gone wrong and has kept time very well. It has been on many adventures with me and I cant imagine being without it,,, guess I love it to pieces. The number in the back of the case is S 105 003 64, the movement is 321 calibre. Hi Johnnie,

Would you be able to post some high resolution pics, especially head on of the dial?

Are you sure it's never been in for a service? It looks like some parts of the watch are replacement parts and not original to a 105.003-64 (also known as The Ed White).

I can only imagine what kinds of stories that watch could tell!

Hey Johnnie, it doesn't seem as though you've asked any questions for forum members to opine on.

However, you have a watch there that you've owned for a very long time, and have enjoyed the hell out of - so why ask anyone's opinion about it? 😉

Hi oddboy... Head of dial ??? I didnt own it from new, I can only speak for the period from 1970 until now. Hi Abrod, Because I know what it is but know nothing about it, Such as what ConELPueblo said,, "its an Ed White" I didnt know that, I wouldnt know an Ed White from Snow White. I didnt know as Oddboy said it has non original parts. The only thing I knew was it was pre moon speedy in pretty good condition. Obviously I would like it to be "spot on", But its only by asking people who know, that I will know and understand my own watches. When I read about straight lugs, flybacks, dial heads etc I simply dont understand the terminolgy. So I look forward to learning something and when I understand what a "dial head" is I will post a photo of it. Many thanks gentlemen, Regards Johnnie

Hi again Oddboy. To confirm, the watch has NEVER been touched in all the time I have owned it. Will now try and put a couple more photos on here. Not sure what dial head so will guess lol

Hey @Johnnie , stick around a bit and you'll pick all the terminology up in no time 😀

Straight lugs - compare your watch to the later Speedmaster Professionals - notice the curved lugs on those, that form a guard around the crown & pushers on the right side? Yours has lugs that run "straight" from the lug tip to the side of the case.

I'm not sure what a dial head is either, unless people are asking for photos of the dial "head-on" meaning a straight photo of the watch from the front (which you've captured in your post just above)

Your watch does look like it had been serviced, before you picked it up - it has a later bezel, and a later chronograph seconds hand. As those parts (especially the bezel) have acquired a beautiful patina from your adventures with it, I wouldn't even think of sourcing the correct parts - while they may be correct to the watch model, they just wouldn't have the character to match your watch.

Hi Abrod, Thank you very much Then I will listen to your learned advice and leave the old lady just as she is! My dad bought it for me when I was seventeen (wish I still was) I also remember him saying that's the only watch you will ever need, he wasn't wrong was he. Lol he used to have a saying... "Buy cheap, buy twice" he was right about that too shame I didn't listen to him more.
