Gives me a headache just thinking about actually using it to tell time.

Pretty though. 馃榾

Too traditional looking for my tastes. I prefer something bolder and more exotic.

This one will not make the cut in the minimalist category... 馃榾

I am not saying I like it, I am saying it is pretty unique and the maker is obviously incredibly clever

Not trying to be snarky (really), but I consider this vintage classic to be far more cleverly (and beautifully, and legibly) designed. In my experience, a simpler design is almost always more clever than a complicated one.

I know very little about Tissot other than them being a lower to mid range brand, are they a manufacturer of in house movements?

I do not follow Tissot, nor any other brand in terms of their contemporary offerings (though Tissot did produce a limited edition homage to the above watch in recent years). When the above watch was produced (mid-'50s), they were a solid, mid-range brand, but made some outstanding watches, including chronographs, and yes, their movements were largely in-house. The Navigator World Timer was powered by a cal. 28.5 N-21 bumper automatic movement.
