··Melbourne Australia.............to put jewels in the plate and barrel bridge when there's a simple solution I hadn't used before.
A member sent me four Seiko 6309 "donor" watches to see if any of the components would be useable in view of the increasing shortage of parts.
Donor Number 3 looked OK on opening, but as I got more of the watch disassembled, it became obvious that this donor's main plate was toast, not even re-jewelling would help here.
It appears that some previous watchmaker (I use that term loosely) had run out of jewels (now I'm making up excuses for them), so they simply tightened up the worn arbor hole by some well placed punch marks.
Oh well, at least the movement can be harvested for other bridges/screws/jewels etc.
