Hi everyone, joined here as I keep looking for guidance and info but seen lots of things I like!

I currently own I couple of modern tissots and a vintage smiths. I can post pictures if anyone wanted to see them. (I realise it's an omega forum)

I have decided to pull together some funds and buy a (proper) watch I've coveted for ages but never been able to afford (house, wife, kids etc) and I've set my heart on a speedy pro.

I haven't purchased yet as I'm stuck in the sapphire/ hesalite debate in my head. Mainly because I really want a display back case.

So this leads me to the conclusion that I need a sapphire sandwich or a hesalite sandwich. If I could buy both new I'd pick hesalite for sure, but I can't so I'm in a quandary as to new or preowned.
Is it realistic to find a good clean 3572.50 for sale or are they all tired now? If I could find a good one what is a reasonable expectation of price (U.K.)

Would appreciate any advice to help,
Thanks

Hesalite.

You can buy a sapphire crystal back from a secondary source. This gives you more options.

Watch = Speedmaster

If you go with a 3572, I'd recommend one with tritium. The dial plots give a much nicer look compared to luminova.

Welcome and good luck with your search for a Speedmaster.

Thanks for your help and warm welcome.

I'm a bit of a stickler for originality so unsure about modifying a watch (I do understand though that it is a reversible mod)
I do like the tritium versions I've seen but not found a nice clean example.
Perhaps I need to make my peace with patina.
That also opens up the search to the 863 movement, a 3592.50?
More to consider.....

Hi and welcome,

Same for me. You can get clean examples of tritium dials and I also much prefer the way they age relative to luminova. I bought my 3570.50 (? as I can never remember the numbers) new in '97. It's a hesalite crystal with a solid back. Here it is today and it's a bit late here so the artificial lighting is not helping to show it off to it's best. The glare is causing the slight effect on the seconds dial. Needs a new crystal really and I will get around to fitting one at some point but still, looks good. The watch has a few marks but nothing you can see with the naked eye.

Not for sale though as after nearly 20 years, I think it's a keeper. Good luck in your hunt.

Cheers, Chris

Looks great! It's aged well, doesn't look it's age at all (lovely faded tritium aside) that with the see-through back would be right up my street!
Thanks for sharing pictures of it, always nice to see!

I notice that the "Swiss made" has "T" either side of it but some don't. Do you know why? Just my curious mind
Thanks

Does it denote tritium?

It's a legal requirement to indicate that there is tritium on the dial and hands as it's a dangerous substance - not that dangerous and not when in a case for the user. Any you see with the T in this age bracket will have tritium but if there's nothing, they will be luminova.

Love your 7!

Sadly I don't own it, it's one of the press cars for the Caterham "seven sprint" that we launched at goodwood revival this year.
I was one of the small team of engineers that designed the model and built the first few press cars. I'm pleased you like it, we were all very proud!

And they are out there. There's a seller on this forum, if you look in the watch sales area called @Kringkily who I think, spcialises in this sort of watch and has a very good reputation. Keep an eye on what he has for sale.

And the 7 is a great piece of kit.

I see @ulackfocus has arrived because it's a Speedy thread and he loves these. He's the local expert and is always happy to discuss the difference between the various tachymetre fonts for example.😁 Feel free to ask him and you'll definitely get a response.

Seriously, there are loads of Speedmaster people here but not @ulackfocus. I have my one but there are many with multiple versions.

Cheers, Chris

Awesome, cheers Chris, yeah I saw on a previous thread he's not a speedmaster fan. Each to their own, to be fair there are a lot of threads on here about them and if you're not a fan it must get old pretty quick!
