Hello OF World - King Seiko Owner

Hello from Washington, DC!

Been looking into 1950's and 1960's Omegas, as they seem to be the inspiration for early King Seiko design.

Here's a few pics of my 1966 'Second' King Seiko:

I've spent possibly too much time looking into the similarly designed Omegas. 😉

The Seamaster 30, 135.007, has a beautiful and very similar lug design, though the 44KS takes the lugs even wider:



The Seamaster Chronograph 14364-61 also has these lovely multifaceted lugs, much like the above:



The KS case back medallion is an obvious nod to those on the Constellation two-tone models, though the early King Seikos and vintage Grand Seikos provide a gold medallion even in stainless steel examples.

The Omega 30T2RG chronometer movement has a distinctive, black polished ratchet wheel that seems to have inspired that in the King Seiko movement. While the KS movement appears to be an evolution of one designed by FHF (an ETA predecessor), the nod to the Omega chronometer ratchet wheel makes it clear who Seiko saw as the company to beat in the early 1960s:
