Born and raised in PE. Spent most of my corporate career in Johannesburg and a year in Cambridge, UK. Got back to PE a month ago and enjoying a break from corporate life this year.

A hiatus in PE sounds great, one of my relatives lived there for two years and I have great memories from my visits.

Welcome to the forum @PhilN
Amazing collection you have there! I'm from EL myself. This is a great forum but be careful as the amount of time spent on this forum has a direct correlation to the number of new purchases you will be making in the near future...

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on a nicely balanced collection. The Zenith is rather attractive, what's the lume like in the dark?

My only connection to PE is that two of my previous cars were shipped through there, no guessing what they were 馃榿.

Cheers

Jim

You gents are giving me serious eastern cape nostalgia... as a matter of fact one of my forum avatars was a picture from the beach at Umgazi near M'Thata.
Here are a few pics from the Eastern Cape in honor of South African members.

Great pics of a great looking watch! That is a good one for the "wild coast" too, although the place also lends itself to "no watch at all"! Enjoy. 馃槣

Jim, the lume on the Zenith is adequate (not great) to read the time. My only criticism is the Red for hours 18:00 to 05:00 on the world timer. Not that easy to read in poor light conditions. I believe a Yellow on Black will be better.

Do you know if there is a large Speedmaster following in SA? Not many to be found on bidorbuy or eBay in SA.

They are out there but not in any great numbers. The few I have met are very private collectors and don't show their collections at all. I found a vintage speedy in Durban a while back and managed to secure it for a fellow forum member.
I have seen maybe a handful of serious watches travel through the local selling sites the best being a nice 2446 Autavia being sold out of Cape Town. I should have acted on it...
