I'm posting this because I'm proud as shit of him.

Meet my pal Bill. Excellent musician and excellent human with some screaming howler monkeys in his closet (like most of us).

Bill got big in his teens and never let up. By the time he was 50 he was tanked.
410 pounds and enough health issues to fill an empty buffet restaurant: Type II diabetes, COPD, apnea, HBP and scary ass high cholesterol.

He found my story online and reached out to me for contact. We talked a lot and often. He offered me money for my assistance -- bullshit, I've never monetized my story and my help is always freely given.
Made a promise and pact with myself in my darkest days, "If I can make it over the top I'm never going back down and I'll help anyone who needs it." ←and that's as humble braggy as I'll get & this post shall get.

He wanted whatever Magic I had but over the years slowly began to understand I have none. There is no secret pill nor magic bullet to sustained and tremendous change.
There's only The Work.
The endless baby steps up the Mountain... and becoming obsessed with The Goal while always embracing and making friends with The Process.

I guess he finally got that.

Just had a call from him followed by a text.
He weighs 165 pounds, off all his former meds and all of his labs have come back as normal.

This was Bill and this is Bill...

Bill is a goddamn gladiator in my opinion.

Congrats to both of you. Making big life changes is damn hard, especially after half a lifetime of setting habits.

Congrats Bill. And this type of story ties in to the “because we need to talk about it” thread. Many who feel that they are at the end of their line, life collapsing, health failing, hope lost- are ready to just throw in the towel. It’s important to remember that every new day is an opportunity to change if one can muster the courage and strength.

That is pretty phenomenal. I fought many battles but weight has never (thus far) been an issue for me. I have seen people fight the battle or hit the 500lb mark and be miserable. My buddy is at that point. He tells me he feels like a freak when he goes out. Real nice guy, great heart, just so overweight he can’t function. I had him over a while back he broke a couch and a spare bed we have. I didn’t care about the furniture I felt bad how embarrassed he got over the situation.

I’ve worked on units that treated anorexia and bulimia. Never got involved in their programs I was in a different section but I’d help go around and lock all the bathrooms while the residents were eating. It was a very volatile time as they would lose it if they didn’t have access to the bathrooms to purge the foods they ingested. My understanding is the success rates were very low, recovery was not a high rate but my involvement was very peripheral. It was very sad to see.

It just brings me back to that quote “everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about, always be kind.”

Glad to see this gentleman’s success and yours as well of course @SC1. I wish I could help my buddy out a bit but he never asks me, I’m not sure what I could do and I must remain judgement free as I know he feels he is judged constantly I don’t want to add to his burden.

Good luck to us all.

Great team work you two.
One hell of a journey you’ve both been on especially Bill.
You have every right to be proud of him but please take a bow yourself. Help, support and believing in him must have helped on his path.
