This was sold recently, for over 8k. They claim to have had it authenticated.
Problem #1 They say it's stainless steel and not white gold.
Problem #2 just look at it. The screw that holds the rotor on..., the poor machine work , and lack of detail ... tell me your thoughts..
Keep in mind someone paid 9k for this ..
They Did not know the reference. But it looks to be a 5296g-010
now the real one.

The obvious missed machine work at the 9:30 in the picture is the most obvious tell.

Like all the fakes that use a plate placed on top of another movement, the most obvious tell is that the jewel that is supposed to be for the barrel arbor has no pivot in it. 🤦

If you could serve for educational purposes show me exactly what you're talkin about. I'm pretty sure I understand you just want to make certain

It’s the only jewel visible. If you look at it, there’s nothing coming through the jewel...

The advantage of looking at this specific thing is that you don’t need to know what the real movement looks like. If it’s a jewel that has a hole in it and there’s nothing in that hole, then this should be a big red flag...

I thought I saw this a while back on Goodwill (shopgoodwill.com). Can’t be certain but looks very familiar.

Believe it or not it was Goodwill. I messaged them letting them know it was a fake a few days bf the auction ended , and was basically told to f*** off. they stated that it was authenticated and came with an appraisal that was guaranteed. Of course that was listed above there disclaimer saying all sales are final and no returns. Urge them not to take my word for it but to get a second opinion. They responded no thank you we trust our Jeweler

I've notified Goodwill of several fakes. They were always grateful and pulled the auction.
Which location is this?

Maybe change the title to Somebody bought a fake PP from Goodwill for $9K or something similar?

This is sickening!
My watch collecting started from Auctionata some years ago.
Back then I thought auction houses were the best place to buy from.
This just shows that you should always triple-check your sellers.

Goodwill can say whatever they want but selling fake watches is illegal and they always have to eat the return if it was presented as authentic. Nobody should think that somebody wouldn’t know a Patek or Rolex is worth something. Goodwill gets donations when families rummage through Grandpa’s stuff after he passes. They might not know about vintage Gallet’s and the like but for sure modern (authentic)?Rolex and Pateks don’t end up in Goodwills donation bins.

Any way to contact the buyer and tell them they bought a fake?
