I've been lurking for some time and thought it was time to say hello.
Originally from England but now living in Adelaide.
I bought my one and only watch 47 years ago in the NAAFI in Germany while serving in the forces.
That watch was an Omega dynamic,I picked it up this afternoon, gave it a small shake and it came to life like it always does. But it does need a new strap, dark blue, can anyone help?
I will be retiring soon and I hope to be spending some of my retirement looking for some vintage Omega's.
The amount of information I have gathered these last few months from these forums should help me greatly.
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum! You'll find several of your countrymen here, including moderators. There's a thread where members have put pins on a world map to show where they are from ...

Looks like you're the first Adeladian! If you're so inclined, be sure to drop yours in a public place like the Adelaide Oval or Rundle Mall. You don't want uninvited visitors coming looking for your watches and Adelaide is a pretty shady place after all 馃槈

I stand corrected, apologies @Matty01!

OK, so here comes the obligatory terrible joke from a Melbournian... Adelaide must be a great place to collect vintage watches, since it's still about 1980 there ::rimshot::

I kid, Adelaide is a great place. I really like how they preserved some of the heritage of the Oval during the recent upgrades. Here, the MCG now looks just like every other generic stadium in the world.

Welcome!
I bought my first in service in 1972.
Only time I've been able to afford the new bastards.
You have a lot of great countrymen here.
I'm proud to be from the USA but if I move.....

Welcome to the forums and tighten your wallet or you'll be in trouble.

Straps sometimes come up on eBay but the aftermarket ones aren't very good, too thick to fit properly under the ring. OEM ones are preferred if you can find one, or try an Omega Boutique or dealer (J Farren Price) for the genuine article at a genuine price.

Have you thought about a bracelet? It'll last much longer than a strap even if it's a bit more exy.

Cheers

Jim

PS: Be prepared for some arrogance at JFP, last time I was there I was only browsing but was totally, almost pointedly, ignored by the staff so I asked about an "Omega Speedmaster" and then they were all over me and showed me a Speedy.

I then looked at my wrist and said "Oh, don't worry, silly me, I've already got one" and walked out.

I hope they've changed staff since then.

For people who don't know this song, the Adelaide reference is in the first minute and a half. Stick it out

Yes have considered a bracelet, but due to the watch having a partially blue dial i wanted to stay with dark blue.I will check for a genuine one next time I'm in the City.I have seen straps on eBay,but not dark blue.Appreciate your help.

I think you're bullshittin' us about having a blue dialed Dynamic.

This can only be resolved by posting a pic with your user name in blue crayon on the day's newspaper (Advertiser preferred) in the background of your Dynamic (preferably on the wrist, unless you are inordinately hirsute).

We await in breathless anticipation.

Its not a good pic and the watch needs a good clean along with the new strap.Didn't have time to get the paper today, had to take the boss out due to it being Mothers day.

Excuses excuses excuses.

You really do need a new strap! Good luck with it.

So were you a grunt or a RAFie in Germany?

Ex techo myself, weapons systems specialist, Fleet Air Arm and RAAF, everything from 9 mils to guided missile systems and all in between.

You'd really have to sweet talk me for that strap though, it came original with the watch and although that pic doesn't show it, the colour matches my dial perfectly.

If you don't have any luck in Adelaide I could check the Omega Boutique here if you like.
