路路Ash @ 惟FWhy did you start Omegaforums.net?
A: Omegaforums.net was started because while many brands have one or several forums, for some reason Omega has never had its own. As owners of Omega watches, we've been part of hanger-on sub-forums and sub-communities, but ultimately we felt like guests in better cases, and "the enemy" in others.
Who are the administrators of the forum?
A: Those would be Trev (Designer) and Dsio (Systems Engineer), feel free to look us up in the introductions thread.
Who are the moderators of the forum?
A: Those would be , MSNWatch (MD), LouS (MD), cicindela (Retired Law Enforcement), kyle L (Student) and, SpikiSpikester (Law), gatorcpa (accounting), Bil Sohne (Entrepreneur), DLT222 (Entrepeneur)
What kind of servers are you running on?
A: Omegaforums.net is running on very fast, rapidly scalable hardware, with a completely custom operating environment. There's multiple professional systems engineers available 24/7, and we have access to rather significant server resources as a by-product of our work. We are happy with continuing to support this forum, and the community that we can help build around it.
Do you need any help financially to run the forums?
A: We appreciate the offers, but do not require any assistance.
Is it OK to mention prices?
A: Yes, we feel that the forum should have the same level of freedom as a discussion about watches in a coffee shop. As a result, prices and valuations are fine to mention. Please keep in mind that unless they are MSRP (Manufacturer stated retail price), you're dealing with a guess or estimate.
Can I post images directly to the forum?
A: Definitely. It's the most reliable (and fastest) method of displaying your images to members. Disk space is cheap and plentiful, but we do request that you try to keep your images on topic (mostly) and non pornographic (always).
Is swearing tolerated?
A: Interesting question. We do not permit blatant and continuous swearing for the sake of it, mainly because it makes the user appear to be an idiot, and causes visual pollution to other users. That said, occasional swearing, within reason, and only where appropriate is tolerated, and a filter is not in use. We relate this back to the coffee shop scenario: if you sound like a sailor on shore-leave, you would be asked to stop. Occasional use is unlikely to be noticed. If its bad enough that we notice it, we'll let you know to tone it down.
Are firearms and/or weapons topics permitted?
A: Yes, in the sense that they can be appreciated for their mechanical, aesthetic, and craftsmanship qualities. Gunsmithing is also an acceptable topic. Gun politics, whether for or against is not permitted (this covers concealed carrying, laws/legislation, and anything of that nature which creates arguments and causes members to dig in on different sides). If you think that a post related to this political issue will cause someone to begin an argument, stop. We will go to any lengths possible to defuse issues like this in a mutually respectful manner, but we would rather not have to.
Are negative statements about Omega watches permitted?
A: Yes, we believe in transparency and honesty. No brand or product is ever perfect, however we do not welcome immature negativity for the sake of it, or negative remarks about Omega SA as a brand.
Is discussion of fake / replica watches or clocks permitted?
A: Absolutely not, in the strongest terms. Fake watches or clocks have no place here, and neither do people who wear fake watches, sell fake watches, or pass off fake watches and in most case fake parts of watches. While some topics may cause anger from one or more parties, this one will earn you the wrath of everyone on the board that owns a real Omega or other high end watch. The only exception to this is in pointing out a fake as a warning to other members, or assisting members in avoiding fake watches.
Are there any storage limitations for private conversations and uploaded images?
A: None whatsoever. Data storage is (relatively) cheap and we have plenty of it. You can upload an unlimited number of photos and store as many private conversations as you like. Additionally, multiple geo-graphically separated, encrypted backups of the data are also maintained.
