Fortis Chrono Valjoux 72

Came across this little beauty for a couple of days ago. 36 mm rose gold. Very nice dial and it does not get worse by a Valjoux 72 under the hood. Think it's from the early fifties.

Is there a sweep second pinion in there? You may be missing the long seconds hand.

That dial is gorgeous. The Valjoux 72 is one of my favorite all time classic chronos. Nice find.

Regarding these markings. I once read that they are somehow related to flying, though could never find any more info about them. Anyone know what use these markings serve? Think I have seem them on Heuers' in the past also.

Some say, as Dennis did already above, that it is for timing telephone conversations billing intervals years ago.
Others claim it was used in aircraft navigation, as speed and distance was calculated in units of 3 minutes and divisible units of 60.

and some just point out you can time your 3 minute eggs 😁

Dennis already mentioned it. Telephone calls.
In the 50's 60's you paid a rate for the first 3 minutes
of a call, then per minute. Phone calls weren't cheap
then as now. So people were very conscious of how
long they were on their "long distance" call.

i think we share a common case and heart mate. i have a 1952 sold Eterna valjoux 72, love it and the fortis is all the sweeter with the condition of the dial👍

This will be awesome function in Indonesia. We consume tons (I mean literally tons) of instant noodle where you boil it for 3 minutes. This food is probably like Mac&cheese popularity in US.

Bit of an old thread...but...

Indeed - the seconds chronograph runner is missing. As it sits right now the only chronograph function that will work is the hour recorder, since the seconds function is missing, and the minute function is driven by a tooth on the chronograph seconds runner.
