Do you wish Omega took itself more seriously?

"Seriously" in what sense ?
Like in CRM - Customer Relation Management ?
They certainly have a list with VVIP clients but not for #ST releases I guess 🍿

In the sense of not being so gimmicky. (I tried to define my meaning in my original post.)

Not trying to come off as a self-serious prude or a snob. And I’m not second-guessing the marketing execs at Swatch, who seem to be doing just fine without my input. I’m approaching this in the spirit of a “fan of the team” who doesn’t like the new offense strategy.

From a time when Omega watches anticipated what was going on in manned spaceflight...

Thinking here about the new gimmicky DSotM, with the little rocket; also about the Snoopy watches and the MoonSwatch---also about the fact that a major dealer in the vintage market once told me he tends not to deal in Omega because he doesn't like/respect all the limited editions and special releases.

It strikes me that there are some brands, like Patek, say, that take themselves super-seriously. Lots of highhanded branding---this is a serious, grownup watch for serious, grownup people. Then there are other brands, like Omega, that aren't afraid to be gimmicky or cute or take risks, but that might sometimes go too far in that direction, to the point of cheapening their image (whatever that actually means). Rolex seems to be somewhere in the middle, maybe awkwardly at times, like with that weird balloon watch, or the puzzle one; they generally seem to hew more toward the Patek end of the spectrum, though.

I'm definitely with the majority here that questions the thought-process behind the new DSotM release. Stuff like this doesn't deepen my love for the brand. But I also like the fact that Omega isn't pretentiously self-serious. I guess I wish they did a better job finding the middle ground sometimes. Does that make sense?

Just wondering how others think and feel about this.
You're right, that's why I sold my aqua terra and Speedmaster Chronoscope to by an IWC Ingenieur and definitely IWC is a serious brand which they don't spend millions of dollars in advertising but in research and pushing their knowledge by presenting incredible haute horlogery timepieces like the eternal calendar or the pilot shock absorber to name a few, and Omega? 1000 variations of Speedys😂😂😂😂

Nice thread resurrection! Thoughts:

(1.) I appreciate Omega creating 100 variations, ie creating a product for each niche in the line; they are unique in that way and there's no reason for Omega to be like Rolex, Patek, or anyone else.
They should be like Omega.

(2.) I like whimsy, so I have no problem with Snoopy, MoonSwatches, etc.
I'm serious about whimsy and Omega seems to be too.

(3.) That said, variants like the new GSotM are DEFINITELY not for me as they appear super try-hard on the moon branding, ie totally shameless about mmmmoooooonnnnnn MOON!

(4.) The forums have a spectrum of people with varying degrees of love for:
(4.a.) Jewelry, (4.b.) Watches, (4.c.) Tech & engineering (4.d) History, heritage, romance

Most of the preference misalignments in the forums come from loving one aspect, say jewelry, but talking to someone who loves another, say engineering.

I started in my early 30s loving jewelry, then dumped everything because I got over that, then got back into some of it because i've loved Swatch since the 80s, ie whimsy, but also appreciate engineering & heritage.

So, for me, the OG GSotM is damn near the perfect watch. I have others, that I like for other reasons but if I could only have 1 it'd probably be the OG GSotM

If IWC ever made a watch I thought looked good I would consider buying one. In my opinion they range from boring to ugly.
