Does anyone please know if a quick-set date, auto calibre was ever fitted to the constellation dog-leg case (all the dog-leg cases I have seen have c 561)

Yes. The dog leg lug 168.005 used the 564 from around 1963-ish on. Here's my 14ct from 1966 on the left:

Thanks very much for the replies - clear position on the gold dog-leg - but would c564 have also been fitted to a SS dog-leg?

Yes. Any 168.005, regardless of case metal, can have a 564.

It's right in the Omega listing:

"Also available in 18K solid pink or white gold (BB, CHF 980.- or BC, CHF 1'230.-), 14K solid gold (BD, CHF 880.-), 14K gold-cap on stainless steel (CD or CE, CHF 475.-) or stainless steel (ST, CHF 395.-)."
All the cases were the same style.

Take care,

Well I've taken the risk of buying an SS dog-leg pie-pan c561 with 1037 bracelet off ebay - arrived today and provisionally looks OK
For my info, anyone know if such SS watches were/are faked (I am aware of reports of faked 14 and 18K gold models but not SS)

One quick way to see if its stainless steel is to try a small magnet, stainless is not magnetic..

Yes, the ss dog leg lug cases were faked too - usually using the reference number 14900 on the inside of the caseback. When you consider that a mint authentic Constellation in ss can sell for over $1000 you can see why Vietnam is turning out the fakes. They have damn near replicated the fonts and facets on the dials so you really have to know what you're doing or have somebody vet a watch for you before purchasing it. I hope you did okay.

Thanks for all the info - the watch I have has facets on the the top and underside of the lugs running back to the case, the bezel has both a top and underside facet all the way round, the case has an upper facet on the sides but which does not continue between the lugs, the dial looks identical to 'ulackfocus's LHS piccy (albeit in SS/silver rather than gold)

Thanks - this is an excellent guide and unfortunately leaves me with the following issue:-
The watch I have just bought conforms to the guide in every respect except one(ish) - and this concerns the facets on the underside of the dog-legs. All of the lugs have underside facets on the 'straight portions' - but it is only on the lugs at 5 and 11 o'clock that the facet clearly continues back to the case - the lugs at 1 and 7 o'clock have only a very, very slight facet continuing to the case
The watch came with (old-looking) papers which tally with the calibre, movement number, and case model (168.005)
Any views most welcome

Your watch might have been polished a little too much. We'd have to see pictures of it to be sure though.

Thanks - I will try to get some photos up - the watch case has overall signs of general wear but does not appear to have been polished - all I can say is that the case seems to have a pair of identically-faceted left-handed lugs and a pair of identically facetted right-handed lugs - but the profile of the RH pair is different to that of the LH pair - you can clearly see this by looking at the lugs end-on
