What was the advantage of the superbeat? Is it basically a because we can watch for Citizen?

Very nice, Citizen made some great watches from that era, going toe to toe with Seiko. Here's a close relative (or competitor 😉) Hi-Beat from the same time period:

They were trying to make the cosc certificationand beat the swiss i think.

About that time the Swiss decided that they didn't want competition from the Japanese that was rapidly overtaking their abilities and they cut the Japanese out of the COsC competition.
