BMW Concept 4 - Triumph or Tragedy?

Makes me very sad. I love BMW and am in the market for a car at the moment, but I just don't think I could look past that grille no matter how brilliant the car is. Who knows? Maybe in five years time we'll all think that it looks great, but I doubt it. Remember Bangle telling us that we would like the e65 7 series in time? Sorry, but almost 20 years on it still looks terrible.

It's not just the size of the grille on the 4 (although that's a bad place to start), but also the shape that looks odd and in no way reminiscent of those vertical grilles from the early BMWs.

I think the render I posted is an improvement, compared to the concept. And I still believe it may look better in the metal than in pictures.

Nevertheless, it is certainly polarizing and a huge gamble. We'll have to wait about a year, to see if they'll regret it.

That's a great-looking coupe ruined by a truly ghastly front end. Given the shit driving experience of modern BMWs I think it's a loser.

Looks similar to the new 1-series front end/grille. Quite glad my wife got the last generation 1-series given their move to front wheel drive also.

Time to switch to Mercedes-Benz; they've been making the better drivers' cars for almost a decade at this point. Especially now that BMW is discontinuing manual transmissions, there's really no reason to choose a BMW over a Mercedes-Benz or an Audi anymore. Just be sure to lease because they're all fragile mechanical trash after 3-5 years.

I already switched my 3 series Touring to a Jag XF Sportbrake. Beautiful car, but yes, am leasing as Jags are not known to be that reliable! As for the wife's car, we own that and will probably keep for a while. She seems to care more about looks, though, rather than driving experience.

Really, I’m waiting to try a new Z4 roadster in manual, I was told it will be at the dealer soon with a few more miles on it so I can drive it harder than if brand new.

The manual is only available with the base engine though. If you want the nice powerful one, you’ll have to accept a torque converter automatic.

The Boxster S with which it competes however....

Typical, sales staff with poor product knowledge or will to make a call to a prospective customer.

I'm hoping that the blue car is missing the central dividing bar and won't be just one big grille. Agree that it's not looking good.
I suspect not, it looks like the reg plate surround in in place near the bottom of the grille?

Might look better in person. As a designer, I like the minimalism. But need to see it in the metal. Could be one of those things that grow on ya.
