Black Tri-Compax?

Hey guys, I came across this article from Hodinkee which was published about 6 months ago. Is this tri-compax for real or is it a fake? Did they make any black dialed compaxes??

Pretty sure anything with black dial for UG are pretty uncommon

way less common than white /cream /silver dials but there are some beautiful tri-compaxes such as the one on hondinkee, and some amazing aero-compaxes as well

Cool, so it does exist.. Interesting. Was reading the archives of this forum trying to find more info about it and came across this discussion. A good read if you want to know more about spotting fakes and dealing with this particular black dial tri-compax.

Yup I read that, not much material there on the genuineness of the watch however, but thanks for posting it!

There were a few features on the close up of the dial that gave me pause, but frankly, I haven't studied it in enough detail to make any conclusions/opinions. The dearth of comparable black dialed Tri-Compaxes out there also makes it difficult to assess some of the dial patina. Legitimate black dialed Tri-Compaxes are out there, and there's no question that the black dials age differently than their more common brethren.

I'll add that it was not afflicted with some of the typical "tells" that I look for in assessing redials. If I were buying it, I'd certainly want to undertake a more thorough study both from pictures and in the metal with the crystal off and an inspection of the dial back.

Yup, agreed on all accounts. Interesting info though, good to know there's actually some out there! With the premium they likely command, I sure would have to see explicit pictures or see it in person before shelling out that kind of $$$. But damn they do look good 🥰
