For a nice watch, if I want to go the extra mile, I wrap it in bubble wrap and put it inside an insulated souvenir cup with a lid. Then I put that in a shipping box with additional bubble wrap or other packing material. The cup costs a few dollars at the supermarket or discount store, but I look at it as a small extra gift for the person who purchased the watch, and the watch is extremely safe. You could step on the package without damaging the watch, and it is also safe against water since it is sealed inside the lidded cup.
I have also used the small reusable food storage containers, or other small plastic boxes.
This is kind of gold, imagine if it were branded?!
Worst shipping experience was a watch simply put in an unprotected letter envelope - even not bubbles!
We don't talk about a 20 usd watch but about a 3k+ watch ... That was simply ridiculous and it was from a "professional" ebay watch seller from south America... Result was a cracked crystal and a ding in the bezel. He didn't even admit any wrongdoing as he always ships like this without problems...
Stop taping bubble wrap, Please
I recently bought a watch from an antique store (not a watch specialist) in the UK which is not yet with me but the seller was so kind to send me pictures of the packacking.
Shipping was complementary by the way.
This is how it should be done!

Well the northern European country is The Netherlands but I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to name the other country where I’ve had terrible experiences - these are my experiences and I’d prefer not to publicly stereotype.
Always put insurance. Do not mess around with being uninsured. You think it won't happen to you until it does. We ship out 2-3 watches per day. It happens more than you think.
