Thanks for the link. I still think VC is at the top. My post above was sort of tongue-in-cheek. I think JLC is one of the best watch companies to deal with today. AP has produced some of my favorite complicated movements. I own a late 40s VC with a modified/upgraded JLC movement. It is an amazing piece. I probably love VC because of the quality of the late 1800s/early 1900s pocket watches I own and have owned.

That is a seriously nice watch. (((drool))) I was never too keen on the term "hobnail". There was a bar in my neighborhood named "hobnails' and it was a real shtihole. Maybe that's why? hahaha

Neways, I believe the correct Swiss nomenclature for that style is "Clous de Paris" (nails of Paris). same thing but it sounds way better than h o b n a i l s

It originated from a style of shoe sole which allowed the wearer to safely traverse through streets full of mud and horseshite.

Whoever designed that watch sure liked hobnails...

What an informative chap you are 😁

And quite rightly, I agree with you on the terminology.

I wore hobnail boots as a "recruit" for three months straight while bashing a parade ground to death on drill so many years ago.

While packing my kitbag to leave for my first duty posting it went "shave kit - pack", "dress uniform - pack", "work dress - pack", "parade boots - shitcan".
