Anyone regret selling your Polar/White 16570?

I don't have one, in fact have never owned any Rolex, but am considering an original owner 1991 Polar 16570 [edit]. I'm about 2 to 5 years late to the party, story of my life, but can't drive by staring into the rear view mirror.

Anyway, I read a few threads where people sold their Polars after prices popped. Looking at this watch and digging it as a non-Rolex guy, hard to imagine there aren't a few people missing that spot in their watch box.

Edit: Maybe to clarify, now that the watch is expensive, are you happy you sold or have you considered buying it again anyway because you miss it?

The 16570 seemed like it was the most traded on Rolex for a while. It was cheaper than a 114270 or 14270 a while back.

Yeah, that's what's making me wonder. It's like people mightof forgot what they liked about the watch. It's understandable, watch doubles. You sell.

Then later it sinks in, do you miss the watch?

I owned one last year. It’s true that prices came down. From a hyped/high 10k to a solid 7-7.5k. The right time to buy is NOW. I sold mine to pursue other watches. I suspect most sold to lose less money. If I had the money, I’d jump on one. I honestly did not like the bracelet much. Felt chunky, and clasp felt cheap. The watch head is very nice. Total bang for your buck overall.

Buy now ! 😉 prices are affordable IMO (I have the EX2 in black-with slight "green-neon" tritium (1996) ): great watch and robust. Fits perfect smaller wrists! I went for the black one, because I love the "metal mounted indexes".

Early Polar ones exist with these indexes (and the silver hands, but quite expensive). Quite rare and somtimes with cream 🥰 dial....

Please, don't say polar.

Any reason why you prefer the white dial over the black one?

Until the hype years they were always around the bottom pricewise. Looking for my first Rolex in ‘99, my dealer said avoid them! Fixed bezel attracts scratches (and needs complete replacement) and isn’t much use etc. I was advised to get the GMT, a proper gmt! I listened and picked up a 16710. The prices of Exp2 seemed to languish for years. They rose with the recent hype but have dropped back recently are a great proposition. The white dial is particularly lovely. Make sure you find a gently used one. There are plenty with soft cases that show a hard life!

This is a tool-watch 😉 for every-day use....
Agreed but given the choice now, I’d like to make my own knocks and scratches!!

I think y’all are confusing the reference number, 16750 is a GMT, 16570 an Explorer.

Can’t go wrong with a 16750, is by far my favorite reference 😉

I think OP got numbers confused. Polar/black would definitely refer to Exp2

I still have my 16570 and love it. Even sold my 114060 Sub when as it was getting so little wrist time compared to the 16570. The 114060 has now been replaced with a 16610 and wrist time is more balanced but still in favour of the 16570.

I only called it Polar because that's what I thought people called the white dial. Is it polarizing?

Why white? Short answer, I associate black dials with speedmasters. I have a few vintage and it's alot of black. I like white dials.

The drilled lugs have that vintage vibe, and you can get tritium lume. Last thing is I like GMTs. .

I like the black version , with "slight"- green lume. So it does appear to me ... mine (1997)

Or you go for a spider-dial 😉

It is on my "next watch list" and probably the only Rolex I'd ever own.
Like you, I sadly watched the prices climb over the last few years...but I still keep an eye on them and it seems like they are coming back down a tad.
And you didn't ask me, @spacemission but I want a white dial simply because I do not have a watch with a white dial - and I feel like the E2 is the perfect fit for that slot.
If I wanted a Rolex with a black dial I'd probably just get a Sub...and I see WAY too many of those.
Besides, I already have the best watch on the planet with a black dial...the Speedy of course ::stirthepot::
