·Overlaying the 2 photos to compare, it doesn't look like there's loss of material. Probably the case has been laser welded before redoing the profiles, polishing and giving that angled brushed finish. A laser welder is definitely not something a DIYer would have.

·I should have been more clear: referring to re-applying the brush finish. Curious if anyone has tried this by hand, what the technique was, and what grit was used.
