Another original UG dial design.... the Dodiccione

..the dodiccione. This one needs some work. I doubt that the hour hand is original, and the chronograph does not start, but the movement looks clean & intact, the case is beefy, and you don't see one of these every year.

Well damn! That is one rare bird! I was offered one in mint condition earlier this year with the same dial, his asking price was $19k ::facepalm1::

Could you enlight me, what exactly is so rare/priceless about this watch, the dial ? Or is it the case aswell (looks common to me)? What is the size of it, and what "dodiccione" means ?

Yes, the dial. Dodicione (one 'c') means "Big 12" (I have heard English-speaking collectors refer to it as the "High Noon"). When I think of this model I am reminded of the old Tredicione soccer betting slip, because the odds of finding one are about the same as the odds of picking all 13 winners.

I could live with that hour hand I think. What a watch! LouS, you swim in the deepest of the deep end of this pool! Yes addiction renewed! UG Forum rocks! Always something new.

Ha ha ha @Vitezi, you don't just "stumble" upon these by chance, I'd advise you credit it to passion66sandra-- a well known chronograph collector. She indicated on her Instagram account she and her husband just acquired it in one of the big recent Geneva auctions.

@Larry S I certainly wouldn't mind having a chronograph that's "too clean" like this one. Although in the "too clean" department and if money was no object I would prefer a Heuer Seafarer with its magnificent greenish/ turquoise and yellow subdials....

At the risk of sounding lame or patronizing, for which I apologize in advance, there are many many incredible watches lying in big safes which some of us will never see-- and that's okay. Some people are homeless or displaced by war and I feel very lucky in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks Syrte. We all need reminding that agonizing over the state of a dial really is the apotheosis of a First World problem.
