An uncommon dial in a common reference

Hello all omegaforums’ members.
I want to share another one in my collection, added around 1 week ago.

It was Omega seamaster ref.2849-1 with uncommon waffle dial, serial no. 14,894,xxx (around 1954-55) and powered by caliber 503.

In my opinion,
- The dial was original with beautiful and uncommon waffle pattern
- The font of “OMEGA , AUTOMATIC, Seamaster, Calendar” was correct and original
- The hours markers were original with uncommon mixing with “Arabic number” at 6/9/12 o’clock"
- The luminous in hour-markers were intact and original
- The hands were original
- The case and lug condition was acceptable with some scratches
- The crown was original omega crown (however I am not sure , is it original come with my watch?)
- The caseback was original
- The movement looks clean and correct (19 jewels can only seen in early model of ref.2849, mine was 2849-1 then later be changed to 20 jewels)
- The crystal with magnifier date was original (I believe it was the special order of this crystal)

From my research about ref.2849 both versions of dial can be correct with (as attached pic below from www.omegawatches.com and without “calendar” under “seamaster”, while without seamaster word was less common.

The outside of caseback can be correct in 3 patterns with “seamaster” and “waterproof” word in all model.
1. Smooth caseback (like mine)
2. Small Seahorse
3. Large Seahorse (rarest)

By the way in Omega ref.2849, it was uncommon to see this waffle pattern in this model, I can find around 4 watches as I attached the photo.
Note: please see the different pattern of "S" in "S"eamaster of this black dial but it was the correct one too.

In addition, all of cream waffle dial (including mine) used the different hour-markers pattern.

My wrist shot:

Duo of mine “Champagne Cream Waffle Dial” with same color tone.

Thanks for watching and need your comment.
About my crystal and crown, please shed some light on.

Best regards,
Teerapat

Did Omega share dial maker(s) with other watch manufacturers? I know the waffle is a common-ish thing on old Rolexs

Thanks @Revo and @iamvr .

@Sherbie , I personally call this pattern as waffle or textured dial.
About the term “hobnail”, I always use for this dial’s pattern.

I think we need more comment from other members.

That is a beautiful watch and a very informative post.

It seems to me that Omega did a much better job of printing waffle dials than Rolex, where there is a problem with failed lacquer on vintage waffle dials from the late 1950s and early 1960s that peels, and tends to take the printing along with it.

Thanks for posting.

Chances are they used the same dial manufacturer...

Just as an extra comment, I have a Seamaster with the same dial. Sold to me as 'Honeycombe' finish.
Great pics on this post.

My 2 Favourite dials, so good I posted them twice [by error].
The one on the left is the 'honeycombe'.
