That's one lovely car, I'm jealous!

About three years ago I was torn between restoring a MK1 Golf GTI or devoting my time to vintage Omegas.

"Oh I'm sure you'd be better off with watches" said my Darlin' as we were discussing it, so watches it became.

I have a sneaking suspicion that her reasoning had a financial bent based on the experiences of some of my car mates, watches couldn't soak up as much money as those darn old cars.............could they?

If not because of the opportunists who treat owners of a new car as cash-cows, owning a vintage-car is not going to be that expensive.

Just like vintage-watches, if a vintage-car is well maintained and serviced regularly, it will also give a life-time of virtually trouble-free motoring, from one generation to another.

Just compare most of the new cars, with just this one.


Most of the vintage-cars are majestic-looking. Like 'ulackfocus', I will also stop to admire their beauty. New cars are just like new watches. More than perhaps, boring.

...Respectable Member Seamonster that 58 Benz is outstanding! I've owned a few Mercedes but nothing even close to that, WOW, love it. I owned a 1984 300D wish I still had it.

Indeed, this one is really in an outstanding condition and will be a dream to drive.

During my younger days, I owned two classics, an MGA and an MGB, as well as, numerous 'Mini Cooper S'. Though they are not as powerful as the cars of today, they were built to be loved and will run, forever.

In response to the many vintage car admirers I hope you will agree that to own and drive one does make you a better driver.
With my own 1937 Morgan and its cable brakes driving and paying attention to the road well ahead was essential, breaking distances without servos etc as we all know can stretch quite a bit.
Anyone ever owned a Honda S800? a lot of fun

Needless to say, he loves his car more than he loves himself. No reckless driving or speeding, ever. Unfortunately, this is not good new for the cash-cow vultures. Bye-bye speed radars and traps, as well as, the red-light cameras. Sorry, no revenue.

There will always be a piece of chamois, stored in the glove-box and when the car is parked in a safe-spot, he will wipe off the dust on his car body.

No, they are Enkei wheels. The VMRs only came in 19in for my application...too pizza cutter especially for Chicago roads!

That was 1988 and I have not had that much hair or as dark since! Oh Dennis, the Walther I had then would have made the pic perfect! LOL
