Advice on Selling in the UK

Hi all,

Ive been living aboard for a while and amassed far too many watches - 14 at last count !

Now Im moving around with work and sadly my job isn't quite as good as it used to be the time has come to slowly sell some of my collection.

I currently have a Rolex 15010 black dial and 1601 grey dial up on Chrono, both well over 拢1000. As it's on over 拢1000 I believe this means EBay checks them, so wondered if that is the better option vs Chrono as it provides a layer of security for both parties ?

Listed on Chrono24 as its the platform Ive used in the passed, did also wonder if its fairly safe here ? It concerns me that the buyer gets a week with the watch before payment is released and with so many watch thefts in the UK I wondered if the platform had been affected ?

Lastly I cant find a post detailing how many posts you need to have to sell here, does anyone know ?

Ive been a member of this forum for 1.5/2 years but I dont post much, would love to post them here too ?

The program where we had been considering exemptions to the 200 post rule has recently ended. There are now no exemptions. 200 posts are required, no exceptions. New members are encouraged to to hang around and contribute meaningful posts. With positive contributions the 200 post does not take long. While many given exemptions have added to the forums and proven themselves to be good commercial representatives , some have not. Policing those that did not work out was both...

Thanks Dan, some days I love selling watches as you talk to people with the same passions. Other days its a nightmare, people asking me if a watch from 1970 has any marks... Lets hope for the former

Lots of people won鈥檛 deal on EBay but I鈥檝e never had a problem selling, and now they don鈥檛 charge any fees plus payment is very swift to your bank. Often even before you鈥檝e posted it off!!
Down side is they a obliged to notify HMRC and you鈥檒l have to do self assessment.
It does reach the biggest market audience.

Down side is they a obliged to notify HMRC and you鈥檒l have to do self assessment.

Hey @Jonathan40 - My understand is that anything under 拢6000 you dont have to declare the tax. Im a sole trader and certainly dont want these watches on the tax radar as it will push me into having to charge VAT, which ironically would significantly reduce the amount of work I will get (joys of the UK)

It鈥檚 only on the radar of HMRC if your selling at a profit, obviously.

I've bought and sold on eBay via the authentication process and had no issues at all. Both watches were packaged well and delivered promptly. I would advise taking a video at both ends, mind - whether buying something from eBay, or selling, it's good to have proof that you have packaged everything, and received everything, as advertised. Just to cover your own back. Alternatively, as others have said, there's Chrono24. There's also WatchExchange over on Reddit, although it's heavily US-based. Perhaps check https://www.watchrecon.com to see where that pages gets its search data from. I can see WatchUSeek is a popular one, if you'r'e a member of there.

Ive listed on Ebay and Chrono for the moment. Ive had a look on WatchUSeek in the past but never used it to sell, Ill give it a look and see what its like
