A Speedmaster is coming my way...

... a Speedmaster Replica Moonphase (ref. 3575.20) or, as sometimes mistakingly being called, the Speedmaster Broad Arrow Moonphase. The watch has broad arrow hands, but isn't in the Speedmaster BA range. I think this watch was only produced for a limited amount of time (1999 - 2003, can anyone confirm the first year of production?).

I am expecting it on Monday or Tuesday.

So is it based on the Cal 1861 rather than the 33x3 movement?

Yes, it is actually caliber 1866 (which is caliber 1861 added with a moonphase module). So, in the end, it has nothing to do with the Broad Arrow line-up. It only has "broad arrow" hands 😉

Have to wait one more day 😀 Will post pictures asap!

How many Speedmasters does this bring you to? The one in your sig looks like its on a 1039 bracelet, Cal 321?

Correct, it is a ref. 145.012-67 from 1967 (shipped to a Norwegian dealer on October 22nd, 1968 - according to Omega). The bracelet is indeed a 1039, but never wear it on this one. I wear it on a leather strap and if I want it on a bracelet, I use a ref.1450 bracelet (late 1980s, early 1990s).I wrote an article on bracelets a long time ago on: http://www.omega-addict.com/reviews/bracelets/

My current watch collection only has one Speedy and this one will bring it to two 😀 I had several speedies, both modern and vintage, but found myself only wearing this pre-Moon model so I sold/traded the others. My second favorite was the 'sapphire sandwhich'-model Speedmaster Pro, mainly due to the nice weight.

However, I might add another one to the collection, as I love the Snoopy version from 1995 (or 1997?) and the 40th Anniversary model with the silver patch.

Reason I remember the 1039 bracelet in particular, I went to a used dealer in Brisbane years ago and picked up a vintage 105.xxx speedy on a 1039, and as I tried to open the clasp, the bracelet fell into about 5 pieces and the watch fell onto the tile floor. First time I ever held a Speedmaster lol

That is the reason I never wear it on my Speedy. It is more or less a 'trophy' bracelet, like the original box I have. Never use them 😉 I have been searching for a ref.7912, ref.1035 and ref.1036 bracelet as well (as they will all fit this model), but you pay approx 300-500 Euro for these bracelets in just average condition. That's a lot of money for scrap metal.

TBH I can't understand why they ever sold a bracelet that bad. The Omega BOR bracelets are amazing and strong, even from that era, that 1039 looks from a distance like it'd be tough but its just flimsy beyond belief.

Wow, congrats. Waiting is the hardest part of the hobby. I would love to be able to go to the AD and buy a watch, but you can save a lot by ordering online. When I purchased my seamaster gmt, it was listed at $2800. I found it online for $1799. I went to an AD after the find and asked if they would match it and they kept saying that there must be something wrong with it. It was brand new in the box with all proper documentation.

Omegagmt: At least you're getting American AD pricing. The Australian prices defy logic. They're just charging whatever they feel like (as is often the case over here).

AUD is now USD $1.06 but we still pay 30-40% more than US MSRP.

Its more that everyone was used to paying huge prices back when the AUD was worth 50 US cents, now that its more than doubled, the retailers have pocketed the difference instead of passing it on.

The Rolex ADs tend to be better surprisingly, as they always index their pricing to the Swiss franc on current exchange terms, and as a result of that, they've dropped the pricing on some models below TAG Heuer at jewelery stores.

As a comparison, a TAG Grand Carerra 36 RS at one point was about $17k while the Rolex Daytona was $13k.

Definitely does look bone rather than the alpine white of the GMT's, but that tends to make it look more appropriate with a brown strap
