Limited edition to 1975 pieces, Speedmaster Professional Apollo Soyuz commemorating a significance history in space exploration, where two opponent space Super Powers handshake their cooperation in two most advanced space vehicle at that time: Apollo and Soyuz.
The event, happened at July 17th 1975, symbolized detente policy during cold war and marked the end of Space Race era between USA and USSR which started since 1957 (coincidence year...eh?).

Astronaut Lieutenant General Thomas P. Stafford (USA) and Cosmonaut Lieutenant General Alexei A. Leonov (USSR) met in the docking hatch which linked their respective spacecraft. Omega Speedmaster Professionals were worn by both.

The watch dial is created from single piece of meteorite which come down to earth surviving atmosphere burning friction and high impact on earth surface.

The dial has interesting character. Meteorite structure reflecting light differently at different angle giving impression from light grey to deep black depending on the angle. Red Speedmaster script and second hand tips color give nice fresh accent to elegant grey-black- silver backdrop.

The Speedy Soyuz meteorite caseback is probably one of the best moonwatch engraving case back. Details of Apollo, Soyuz and earth background is surprisingly fine for a stainless steel case back.

The meteorite’s unusual structure is the result its very high temperature when it enters the Earth’s atmosphere, followed by a period of cooling. The dial is a single piece cut from the meteorite; accordingly, because no two pieces of the meteorite are exactly alike, each watch in this limited edition is absolutely unique.

The black colour of the meteorite dial is the result of a surface oxidation process. The silvery seconds hand and chronograph counters appear in the meteorite’s natural colour.

The dial is the reason I fell in love with this Speedy. At the same time I had two choices to buy this Speedy or Snoopy with only $500 difference. In term of collectability the Snoopy is more sought after. But I could not refuse the magnet of this meteorite dial.
Beside what tell your Speedy has relationship to Space program better than a meteor piece inside the watch?

Beside what tell your Speedy has relationship to Space program than meteor piece inside the watch?

Jim Ragan, the NASA engineer that actually tested and certified the Speedmaster Pro as the Moonwatch in the first place personally wears an Apollo-Soyuz Meteorite LE as his daily watch as well btw.

The fact that it has part of a meteor making each watch slightly different/individual makes it even more impressive. If I wasn't after a Pre moon 321 I think it would be 1st on the speedy wish list !!
