Red Bull's Christian Horner: Changes to circuit needed at Monaco

"...
After Sunday's race, Horner said the core issue is that the tight circuit does not permit overtaking with modern cars and only a change to the layout would fix the problem.

"I think the only way to really encouraging any form of overtaking is trying to create a bit more of a braking area, either on the exit of the tunnel or turn one if there was any way of creating a longer braking zone somewhere, we should really investigate it," Horner said.

Yea deleting the Swimming Pool Chicane among other things might help, there's just not a lot of room to change or expand it though aside from that

The problem is the cars. They are just huge now.

You would need to go back to the 50s or 60s cars before they out grew that track no just dimensionally but technically too they're just too fast now!

Everybody has to run a Lotus 49 clone, complete with the Ford Cosworth DFV.

Large or narrow cars, there is 2 overtake per decades in Monaco anyway. It has always been the case. OK, it's Monaco but it has always been the worse GP to follow. And it will stays that way. It goes out of the calendar or every body makes a good sleep every year.

Singapour is a purge too. Hungary benefits those years from DRS.

What makes overtaking without DRS hard in modern F1, whatever the race, is aerodynamic. They just can't be close to a car for years now. Bring back 1988 cars and they will drop by 2s/turn but they would be able to follow each other.

Being frequently in Eau Rouge. You can see that Porsche Cup are close to each others. Doing the same thing with a modern F1 and you will end up in a top of a tree. Porsche Cup down force is up to tires and suspensions. Good drivers can makes a difference. F1 just roll in full gas. No sport.

Theoretically Monaco should stay exactly how it is as a test of diver skill over car design I but agree that the present car design philosophy hampers the drivers ability to show their technical driving ability in pure competitive form. The drivers get to show some of their abilities, particularly in qualifying but not their true racing abilities against other drivers.

For me Monaco is presently a “try not to crash in narrow tight streets” and “let’s see how the rookies do” circuit.

But it makes for stunning visuals on tv and I wouldn’t turn my nose up at an opportunity to attend preferably on a yacht lined up on the chicane. I’m not sure Monaco the city or the local “race track” organization has much incentive to want to change unless TV ratings go down in relation to other circuits or otherwise F1 gains leverage to compel them to change.

Hi all,
I had a thought this weekend after Oscar Piastri once again showed his talent, can you imagine if Mark Webber had let him stay at Alpine. He would be nowhere in the last 2 years and no one would even rate or talk about him having him sign to McLaren instead was a stroke of genius and good fortune for Piastri who is leading the drivers championship in only his second year.

Mark really did the best piece of driver management in recent history there, that dude dodged a bullet and landed in the winner's circle.

Pretty interesting last 10 laps or so. And the top 10 was pretty great as well...with the exception of 10th position lol.
Was happy to see Hulk and Alonso get some points! Sure wish HAAS could do a little better...

Rough time for the Scuderia. The Italian press is raking them over the coals and LeClerc finds a wall in P1 and misses P2.

George trolling Max after Q with the more points on license to give and then braking to force Max to overtake him during the SC period at the end of the race was great. I'm not a fan of George but him being a giant troll to goad Max is great.

Good racing by Lando in the first stint. Surprisingly didn't fold under the pressure from Oscar.

Guessing both McLaren drivers figured they couldn’t be overly aggressive with each other after Canada so Oscar had to be a bit cautious behind Lando. Still some good wheel to wheel racing between them once they left the rest of the pack in the dust.
