1970 Omega speedmaster Professional MKII with racing dial

I already had a plain MK II from 1969 but i always wanted the mkii with the racing dial. This is my 30th vintage omega and i have to say, one of my favorites. It is in excellent shape with normal wear but nothing major. The amazing thing about this,watch is the movement. I have had it for 4 days and it has been running non stop while wearing it and it has been spot on accurate and did not gain or lost even a second. I had actually never seen than in a mechanical movement, especially one that is 53 years old. This is a testament to the durability of omega movements.

It will be some time for me yet but I have this on my short list. Love these MKII racing dials.

Funny how the tonneau case was seen as "modern" when it was issued, yet now gives a 70s vibe, whereas the original speedy still seems timeless.

i really love how the orange sets the 145.014 off. congrats on a great watch.

Yes the MKII was supposed to be an improve over the lyre lugs. The weird think is that Omega never stopped the production of the original Speedy throughout the various iterations of the MKIIs, MKIIIs, MKIVs and IV and a half. Somehow they knew that the original design was there to stay, and actually since the 90s all Seamasters and Speedmasters have the same case design.

Nice watch. Are yellow hands just orange hands that spent too much time on the sun or did they actually ship out yellow?

Yes they are on my watch, but sometimes you can see them faded to yellow.

I have some seamaster chronographs with the 861 movements and they run really strong too

Lighting and the particular phone camera can play tricks with the colors. I have a watch with a very bright orange seconds hand but usually turns out more red in photos. Doesn’t do it justice.

I received it a week ago and in 7 days it lost only 3 seconds. That has to be some type of record for an automatic watch 😀

This is a manual winding movement.

lol. I meant mechanical movement. At least i didn't say quartz 😀

Nice watches these!

Sorry to ask this here, but I am a newbie on Omegas so: is there a possibility to tell wether they were delivered as this or are later mods?

I don't believe any of them were moded after the fact. The ones with a service dial might have been but it would be hard to prove either way. What i do not understand is why Omega kept the same reference number for both variations.
