1171 - the versatile bracelet

It came on my Speedy when I bought it 18 years ago- it has been a hair-puller from day one and I took it off within the month. I have pulled it back out and tried it at least a dozen times and every time it lasts a day and back off it goes. I just can’t get over the pin-prick sensation on the top of my wrist- it is the only bracelet I own that does it and I’m not that hairy.

Short of some miracle cure to get rid of the hair pulling- I’m waiting for the Uncle Seiko polished/brushed Holzer or flatlink- otherwise on leather it stays

Here is a 1171 on a 90's Apollo XI.
Very versatile bracelet indeed

Completely agree. My first Speedmaster was a 1976 145.022 and it came with an 1171/633. Loved the look, but it was a relentless hair puller. My current Speedmaster is a 1969 Straight Writing on an 1175/640 flat link. It's a very comfortable bracelet and better in every way than the 1171 IMHO.

That sounds super annoying! 🙁

My time with a 1171 has not been extensive by any means, but my experience has been very different. No pulling at all, just a very comfortable, well-fitting bracelet with a soft, very pleasant exterior texture around the wrist.

I’ve been very pleasantly surprised with it. even though this thing is almost 50 years old and has a fair amount of stretch, it wears far more comfortably than most straps

I had one (bought from an Omega AD) and didn't like it so quickly sold it. These 1171 bracelets can't be made to go small enough to fit wrists that are 6 inches or less so they just flop around and are too loose. I replaced mine with a 1499 bracelet which is just the bracelet used from 1998-2021 on Speedmasters but it's a tapering version of it that goes down to 16mm.

The 1039 bracelet is more comfortable than the 1171, 1162 or a new age oyster from rolex.

And picture i did on my 2254 😉
I'm really really tempted to waste $600-800 on a 1171 which I totally do not need because this looks so good. I know Uncle makes a knockoff, but not having Omega on the clasp would really bother me.

Here the 1171 633 on Replica and Sea 2531
Had to check if this was my post or not. I have the exact same watches, even similar wear on the bond!

I have a couple of 1171s and it's perfectly serviceable without being exciting. I just swapped one of my speedmasters onto a JB Forstner bracelet and the build quality is night and day, at substantially less cost than Omega is currently selling the 1171 for. I know there is a premium that comes with the Omega logo in the clasp, but I do feel that they're taking the p1ss with the bare bones 1171.
